GDO ROLL77 Electric Key and Genesis Button Control (5 Signature Colours)

Simple Control from Inside and Outside

The GDO ROLL77 Electric Key and Genesis Button Control model gives you the same robust, insulated 77mm aluminium roller door as our entry-level model, but with added access convenience built in. A wall-mounted Genesis control panel inside the garage provides simple push-button operation, while a surface-mounted external key switch lets you open and close the door securely from outside with a key. It is the practical choice if you want reliable, hard-wired control from both sides of the door without carrying or replacing batteries in remote handsets.

Best for Garages with Regular Driveway Access

This model is ideal for garages accessed frequently from the outside, especially where there is no separate pedestrian side door into the building. From inside, you can operate the door directly from the Genesis wall unit. From the driveway, simply insert and turn your key in the weatherproof external switch. It gives you quick, secure external access while eliminating lost or damaged handheld remotes.

Semi-Automatic, Safe Operation

The Genesis control unit is set up with practical operating logic: the door opens fully on a single touch/turn impulse and closes using a “hold to run” action. You simply turn or press once to open, and press and hold to close. This allows you to monitor the closing travel safely, keeping the door fully compliant with UK safety standards without the expense or maintenance of optical safety beams or bottom-edge transmitter sensors.

Made to Measure in 5 Signature Colours

Every GDO ROLL77 door is made to measure at no extra cost, manufactured to your exact opening dimensions for a neat, weathertight fit. The curtain is available in five popular finished colours to suit both modern and traditional properties:

• White (RAL 9016)

• Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016)

• Black (RAL 9005)

• Chartwell Green

• Agate Grey (RAL 7038)

The side guides and optional half or full hood covers are supplied finished in the matching colour as standard for a smart, coordinated appearance around the entire opening. If you prefer contrasting colours (such as white guides with an Anthracite curtain), please let our team know when placing your order.

When to Choose This Model

Choose the GDO ROLL77 Key and Genesis Button Control if you want the durability and insulation of a 77mm double-skinned roller door with simple, hard-wired access from both inside and out. If you only ever access your garage internally from the house, our basic internal push-button model is the most economical choice. If you prefer opening the door from inside your car as you pull onto the driveway, take a look at our full remote-controlled GDO ROLL77 models.

How to Order Your Made to Measure Door

Ordering your GDO ROLL77 is straightforward. Measure your garage opening and select the nearest next size up as an “up to” size from the drop-down menu to set your price band. Next, enter your exact required Over Guide Width (OGW) and Guide Height (GH) in millimetres in the ordering boxes so your door is manufactured for a precise fit.

Choose Your Signature Colour

The GDO ROLL77 is available in five popular finished colours at no extra cost to complement both traditional and modern homes:

• White (RAL 9016)

• Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016)

• Black (RAL 9005)

• Chartwell Green

• Agate Grey (RAL 7038)

The side guides and optional hood covers are supplied in the matching finished colour as standard for a clean, coordinated look around the entire opening. If you prefer contrasting colours (such as white guides with an Anthracite curtain), please contact our team when placing your order.

Included Control and Access

This GDO ROLL77 model is supplied complete with the internal Genesis wall-mounted control panel and an external surface-mounted key switch as standard. This gives you secure, hard-wired control from both inside and outside without needing remote handsets:

Genesis Control Panel (Internal): Mounted inside the garage, this panel provides clear push-button controls for everyday use, featuring single-touch opening and hold-to-run closing for safe, compliant operation.

External Key Switch (Included): A robust, weatherproof wall-mounted key switch lets you open and close the door directly from the driveway using supplied security keys—ideal for regular vehicle access or garages without a side door.

Additional Internal Push Button (Optional): You can add a secondary internal push button wired back to the Genesis control panel if you want an extra control point elsewhere in the garage.

Manual Override and External Release

Every GDO ROLL77 is supplied with an internal emergency manual override as standard. In the event of a power cut, simply hook the supplied winding handle into the motor eye to wind the door open or closed by hand from inside.

* Important: If your garage has no separate pedestrian side door and the roller door is your only way in, you must select the external manual low-level release. This allows you to engage the manual override from the outside during a power failure.

Hood Cover Options

As standard, this door is supplied with no hood cover (open roll), which is ideal when installing fully behind the lintel where the roll is concealed. If fitting within the reveal or externally, an optional hood cover provides essential protection and a neat finish:

GDO Roll 77 Hood Cover Options

Half Hood Cover: Provides an aluminium fascia covering the top and front of the roll. Perfect for cloaking the mechanism when viewed from outside if installed under a shallow lintel.

Full Hood Cover: Fully encloses the curtain roll and mechanism in a 90° aluminium box, protecting the components from dirt, leaves, and weather. Essential for external installations.

Configuring Your Final Details

Installation Position: Choose Behind the Opening (Face Fix) for maximum drive-through width and height, or Inbetween the Opening (Reveal Fix) if internal headroom or sideroom is restricted.

Motor & Override Handing: Select left-hand or right-hand side (as viewed from inside the garage) for the motor drive, manual override eye, and power connection to match your electrical supply.

Construction and Operation

Roll77 slat profile

The GDO ROLL77 is constructed from high quality 77mm deep, double-skinned aluminium slats with a dense insulating foam core. Every door is made to measure as standard, manufactured to your exact millimetre measurements in both width and height for a precise fit.

This model is equipped with an internal Genesis wall-mounted control panel and a fixed external key switch, giving you push-button control inside and secure key operation from outside. The Genesis system operates with semi-automatic logic (single impulse touch/turn to open fully, and hold-to-run control to close), allowing you to safely control and monitor the door's travel.

Safety and Bottom Slat

The bottom slat is an extruded aluminium profile fitted with a heavy-duty rubber bottom weatherseal. Safe operation is built into the control logic: you must maintain contact on the close button or key while the door travels downward, allowing you to stop the door instantly if an obstruction appears.

Barrel, Endplates and Headroom

The curtain rolls neatly around a steel barrel supported at both ends by 300mm x 300mm steel endplates. This 300mm measurement represents the headroom required if you wish to conceal the roll behind the lintel. Always allow for up to 110mm of curtain hang-down when the door is fully raised if drive-through headroom is critical.

Guides, Sizes and Clear Openings

Side guide channels are 34mm deep and supplied in either 75mm or 90mm widths depending on the overall door size. The door is ordered using the Over Guide Width (OGW) and Guide Height (GH).

The door can be fitted behind (face fix) or in-between (reveal fix) the structural opening. Always ensure you have allowed enough space for the side guides, 300mm endplates, and any optional hood cover (the hood shares the overall width of the endplates and guides).

Doors up to 3000mm wide (supplied with 75mm wide guides):
• Clear opening width = Ordering width (OGW) less 150mm (75mm each side)
• Clear opening height = Guide height (GH) less approx. 110mm (bottom slat hang-down)

Doors over 3000mm wide (supplied with 90mm wide guides):
• Clear opening width = Ordering width (OGW) less 180mm (90mm each side)
• Clear opening height = Guide height (GH) less approx. 110mm (bottom slat hang-down)

Maximum Dimensions:
• Maximum ordering width (OGW): 5200mm
• Maximum guide height: 2900mm (approx. 3200mm overall height including 300mm endplates/hood; maximum width at this height is 4600mm)

5 Signature Finished Colours

The GDO ROLL77 curtain is available in 5 durable finished colours at no extra charge:

• White (RAL 9016)

• Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016)

• Black (RAL 9005)

• Chartwell Green

• Agate Grey (RAL 7038)

Guides & Hoods: Side guides and optional half or full hood covers are supplied in the matching finished colour as standard. If you require contrasting colours (for example, white guides with an Anthracite curtain), please contact our team when placing your order.

Fitting Positions

Behind the opening (Face Fix): Maximises clear drive-through width and height, ideal for 4x4s, larger vehicles, or non-square openings.

Inbetween the opening (Reveal Fix): Fits neatly within the brickwork reveal when internal headroom or side room is limited.

* External installation is also possible using a full hood cover, which will reverse the motor handing and curtain orientation.

Hood Cover Options

Add an optional half or full hood cover to neatly enclose the roll and protect the mechanism from dirt, leaves, and weather exposure.

Simple, Hard Wired Installation

The GDO ROLL77 Electric Key and Genesis Button Control has been designed to be very straightforward to install. The curtain and barrel are supplied pre-assembled, the guides are pre-formed and the Genesis control panel with external key switch uses simple hard wired connections. There is no remote handset programming, making this system ideal for competent DIY installers or any local builder or electrician.

Core Installation Steps

  • Prepare the opening: Check the structural opening is sound and square, confirm your ordered Over Guide Width (OGW) and guide height match the intended fitting position (behind or inbetween the opening).
  • Fix the guides: Position the side guides plumb and level, then securely fix them to the wall or frame in accordance with the fitting instructions.
  • Mount the barrel and curtain: Lift the pre-assembled barrel and curtain into place on the steel endplates, allowing around 300mm headroom for the roll and any hood cover, then fix the endplates firmly to the structure.
  • Connect the power: Plug the factory-fitted mains lead into a suitable 13 amp, three pin, switched socket. Any new socket or fixed wiring must be installed by a qualified electrician.
  • Fit the Genesis control panel: Mount the internal Genesis control unit inside the garage at a convenient height, where you have clear sight of the door while operating the buttons.
  • Test operation: Check the door opens fully with a single press of the open button and closes smoothly using the hold-to-run close command, confirming you can stop the door at any point.

Installing and Using the External Key Switch

The external key switch is supplied as standard with this model and gives you secure access from outside the garage. It is housed in a robust steel or alloy body and connects back to the Genesis control panel using a low voltage cable.

  • Positioning: Mount the key switch on the outside wall of the garage, usually near the opening at a comfortable operating height, but where it is not easily reached by children.
  • Cabling: Run the supplied control cable from the key switch position back to the Genesis control panel inside, keeping it secure and away from any moving parts of the door. Follow the wiring terminals shown in the Genesis instructions for the external key switch connections.
  • Operation: To open the door from outside, insert the key and turn to send an impulse command; the door will open fully. To close, turn and hold the key so you can watch the door while it closes, releasing it immediately if you see any obstruction in the opening.
  • Security: The key switch uses dedicated security keys, so only authorised users can operate the door externally. When the key is removed, the switch returns to a neutral position and the door cannot be moved from outside.

Manual Override and External Release

Every GDO ROLL77 is supplied with an internal manual override as standard. In a power cut, you simply insert the winding handle onto the internal override point and manually wind the door up or down from inside the garage.

If the roller door is your only way into the garage and there is no separate pedestrian door, you should also specify an external low level manual release. This allows you to operate the manual override from outside if there is no mains power and you cannot enter the garage to use the internal handle.

Always follow the full GDO ROLL77 fitting and wiring instructions supplied with your door, and consult a qualified electrician for any permanent electrical work or if you are unsure about the power supply and control wiring.
