GDO ROLL77 Electric Push Button Insulated Roller Garage Door

Manufactured exclusively in the UK by GarageDoors Online, the GDO ROLL77 range offers a new generation of insulated roller garage doors designed specifically around how you use your garage. This is the simplest and most efficient model for anyone who enters their garage on foot through a side access door rather than by vehicle.

Smart Simplicity and Everyday Reliability

The GDO ROLL77 keeps operation straightforward with a clean, wall-mounted control panel featuring simple up and down buttons. Using intuitive "hold-to-run" technology, you press and hold the button until the door is fully open or closed. This system ensures full compliance with UK safety regulations while eliminating the need for remote controls, electronic sensors, or infrared beams. With fewer electronic components, the ROLL77 offers exceptional reliability, value and long-term performance.

Made to Measure for the Perfect Fit

Every GDO ROLL77 door is made to measure for a perfect fit and neat installation. Available in sizes up to 5200mm wide and 2650mm high, this door comfortably covers almost all standard UK garage openings. The side guides are available in 75mm or 90mm sizes depending on the width ordered, ensuring the strongest and most stable installation possible.

British Build Quality

Each GDO ROLL77 is engineered and assembled in the UK using high-quality materials and precision manufacturing processes. The aluminium double-skinned, insulated curtain provides excellent strength, security and thermal efficiency. The streamlined design removes unnecessary electronics, keeping the system incredibly easy to use and cost-effective to maintain.

Style and Finish Options

The GDO ROLL77 curtain is supplied in 18 premium powder-coated colours to suit your home’s exterior. Optional half or full hoods are available in matching or contrasting finishes for a tailored look. If you would like a colour combination not listed online, please contact our team for details and pricing.

Manual Override and Access Options

In the event of a power cut, the GDO ROLL77 includes an internal manual winding handle for easy manual operation. If your garage does not have a separate pedestrian access, we recommend adding an external key switch or low-level manual release system for safe external access at all times.

Future-Proof and Upgradeable

The GDO ROLL77 is designed to grow with your needs. Start with the basic, hard-wired button-controlled setup, then easily upgrade to more advanced control systems later. Whether you want remote operation, smart home integration, or timed access, the ROLL77 can adapt whenever you're ready.

Configuring Your Door Options

After selecting your size and curtain colour, work through the remaining options to tailor the door to your garage and how you use it:

  • Hood cover: Choose a half hood to neatly cover the front and top of the roll, or a full hood to fully enclose and protect the roll and mechanism.
  • Guide colours: Select matching or contrasting colours for the side guides if required.
  • Installation position: Choose inside face fit (most popular and recommended), between the opening, or external fitting (external installations will require a full hood and may need additional components).
  • Motor side: Decide which side you want the electric motor, manual override and power cable to be situated on when viewed from inside the garage.
  • External manual override: Specify if you need a separate external manual override access, especially important if there is no other way into the garage in the event of a power cut.

Construction and Insulation

Roll77 slat profile

The GDO ROLL77 is constructed from high quality 77mm deep, double skinned aluminium slats with a foam filled core, providing strength, insulation and a smooth, quiet door action. It is a made to measure, electric operated roller garage door as standard, manufactured to the exact millimetre in both width and height for a precise fit.

Electric Operation and Manual Override

Hold to run rocker switch

The roller door is electrically operated as standard and incorporates an internal emergency manual release in case of a power failure. This is a winding process using the supplied winding handle, which hooks onto the eye of the motor drive for simple manual operation. The manual override can be specified on either the left or right side as viewed from inside the garage to suit your layout and access.

Barrel, Endplates and Headroom

The curtain rolls around a robust steel barrel, supported on both sides by steel endplates measuring 300mm by 300mm, which is the headroom required if you wish to fully hide the roll and optional hood cover. Always allow for up to 110mm of curtain hang down when the door is fully open if clear opening height is critical for your vehicle or storage needs.

Guides, Ordering Sizes and Clear Openings

Door guides on each side are either 75mm or 90mm wide and 34mm deep, and the door is always ordered using the Over Guide Width (OGW), which is the total width of the curtain plus both guides combined. The door can be fitted behind or inbetween the structural opening as required, but you must always check that you have allowed for the guides and endplates, and the full hood cover if selected, when calculating your ordering size.

Ordering size is specified as Over Guide Width (OGW) by Guide Height (GH). Doors up to 3000mm wide are supplied with 75mm wide guides on each side, giving a clear opening width equal to the ordering width less 150mm and a clear opening height equal to the guide height less 110mm to allow for the bottom slat hang down when the door is open.

Doors over 3000mm wide are supplied with 90mm wide guides on each side, giving a clear opening width equal to the ordering width less 180mm and a clear opening height equal to the guide height less 110mm. This ensures the correct strength and stability for larger openings while still maintaining a generous clear drive-through space.

The maximum width including guides is 5200mm, and the maximum guide height is 2900mm, giving a total height of 3200mm when you include the barrel endplates and hood, with a maximum width of 4600mm at this height. These generous limits mean that most single and double UK garage openings, including those used by larger 4x4 vehicles, can be comfortably accommodated.

Fitting Position Options

> Between the opening
> Behind the opening

Fitting behind the opening gives you the maximum possible clear width and height and allows the GDO ROLL77 to be installed in complex or irregular openings where a traditional door might struggle. This installation style can also be used for external mounting, but in this case the motor handing and curtain orientation are reversed and a full hood cover is strongly recommended for weather protection.

Hood Cover Options

GDO Roll77 hood cover options

Half hood cover

A half hood provides a neat front fascia and top cover for the curtain roll. This is ideal when the door is fitted inbetween the opening or where the roll is visible from outside, as it hides the barrel and slats from view and gives a cleaner, more finished look to the front of the garage. It also offers some added protection from dust and weather, without the additional cost of a full enclosure.

Full hood cover

A full hood completely encloses the curtain roll and barrel on all sides except for the opening through which the curtain travels. This is strongly recommended where the door is fitted externally or in more exposed positions, as it offers the best protection against wind, rain and debris and keeps the mechanism safely covered. A full hood also gives the smartest, most streamlined appearance inside or outside the garage and is a good choice where the door is lower in height or frequently used, helping to prevent accidental contact with the moving curtain and improving overall weather sealing.

If you are unsure which option is best for your installation, consider how visible the roll will be and how exposed your garage is to the elements. In general, a half hood is perfect for inbetween or partially visible internal fits, while a full hood is the best choice for external, exposed or more premium finishes where protection and appearance are a priority.

Simple, User Friendly Installation

The GDO ROLL77 has been designed from the ground up as one of the easiest electric roller garage doors to install yourself. With a factory-assembled curtain and barrel unit, pre-formed guides and a straightforward hard wired control switch, there are very few electrical or setup steps required on site compared to more complex remote systems.

Hard Wired Push Button Control

The standard hard wired wall switch keeps everything simple and reliable. There is no control panel to program and no wireless handsets to set up. Once the door is fixed in position and plugged into a suitable 13 amp socket, you simply connect the pre wired switch cable, mount the switch at a convenient height on the wall and the door is ready to operate with hold to run up and down buttons.

Key Installation Points

  • Positioning the guides: Fix the side guides level and plumb either behind or inbetween the opening, ensuring you have allowed for the correct Over Guide Width (OGW) and guide height.
  • Mounting the barrel and endplates: Lift the pre-assembled roll into place, fixing through the steel endplates and allowing 300mm headroom to accommodate the barrel and optional hood cover.
  • Connecting the power: The door is supplied with a standard mains lead that connects to a nearby 13 amp, three pin, switched socket. Any additional fixed wiring should always be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician.
  • Fitting the wall switch: Mount the switch at a comfortable operating height, out of reach of small children, and connect the low-voltage control cable following the simple wiring diagram in the instructions.
  • Setting the manual override: Ensure the internal manual winding point and handle are accessible and that you know which way to turn the handle to open and close the door in the event of a power cut.

Ideal for Competent DIY Installers

Because there is no complicated control board programming or safety edge setup, many competent DIY customers are able to install the GDO ROLL77 themselves using basic tools and the step by step fitting instructions supplied with the door. If you prefer, any local builder or installer familiar with garage doors will also find the product quick and straightforward to fit.
