Planning a garage door before Christmas

Planning a garage door before Christmas

If a garage door project is on your list before Christmas, it is tempting to begin with one question: how soon can the door arrive? That matters, but a useful delivery conversation should also cover where it is going and what happens when it gets there.

All garage doors sold by GarageDoorsOnline are made to order. Many are large, heavy items, and some arrive fully assembled. The right preparation helps avoid a delivery being interrupted by an access restriction that could have been discussed before ordering.

Share the route, not just the postcode

A delivery address does not explain every restriction on the approach. Low bridges, narrow lanes, weight limits, tight turns and overhanging trees can all affect whether the allocated vehicle can reach the property.

Our delivery information includes large lorries and carrier-specific vehicle dimensions. Those details are worth checking against the actual approach to your address, not just the width of your driveway.

If access looks uncertain, contact us before placing the order. Photographs and a clear description of the restriction can help us discuss whether an alternative delivery arrangement is needed. A smaller vehicle should not be assumed to be available or included.

Know what kerbside delivery means

Garage doors are delivered to the kerbside. The driver can assist with the initial offload, but delivery does not include moving the door to another part of the property.

Plan that next stage separately. Who will receive the goods, where can they be placed and how will they be moved safely to the intended storage or installation location?

A large pre-framed door is not a parcel that can be carried into the garage by one person. The required people, equipment and handling method depend on the size and weight of the order and the site. Discuss any uncertainty before delivery, rather than trying to improvise when the vehicle arrives.

Confirm who will be there

An adult must be available to receive and sign for the delivery, with suitable assistance for unloading. Make sure the contact number on the order reaches someone who can respond to delivery arrangements.

The published delivery guidance does not promise a precise arrival time. Avoid arranging the day around an assumed short delivery window, and do not assume a large door can be left unattended in a safe place.

Treat estimated lead times as a starting point

Our delivery hub provides current estimates by manufacturer and door type. The exact specification matters: size, design, colour and optional features can affect the production route and timing.

If your project has a deadline, speak to us about the particular door before ordering. Confirm the latest position before making firm commitments with other trades, and remember that a delivery estimate is not a guaranteed installation date.

We can also discuss whether an available stock or faster-delivery option meets your requirements. Choosing a different specification should be an informed decision, not a last-minute compromise. Call us on 01926 463888

Check manufacture delivery guides

For orders that need to arrive before Christmas, check our Christmas delivery lead times page. It lists the last order dates by brand and product, along with our Fast Delivery ranges, which have a better chance of arriving in time. Some last order dates have already passed and others are coming up soon, so if your door is not listed or the timing is tight, call us before ordering.

Put the whole order on a practical footing

Send GarageDoorsOnline your preferred door, opening information, postcode and any access restrictions. Our in house team can help with specification and ordering questions so that the product and the delivery plan are considered together.

For an existing order, use the separate order tracking contact shown on our website. A little planning before dispatch can make the handover much more straightforward.
