The GDO SmartRoll 77 is a smart electric aluminium roller garage door, purpose made to the millimetre and supplied as standard with a Somfy Optimo remote control system and a wireless wall-mounted Somfy button control that you can position wherever best suits inside your garage. It includes the Somfy Connectivity Kit, allowing you to control your electric roller door directly from your smartphone using the free Somfy app, whether you are at home or away.

Semi-Smart Control with Upgrade Path

This model is our entry-level semi smart roller garage door, giving you smartphone app control and integration with Somfy RTS and IO protocol devices, while keeping the system simple and cost effective. The full Smart version of this door adds even more advanced functions and wider integration with other non-Somfy smart home products, so you can easily upgrade in future if your requirements grow.

Alexa, Hey Google and Multiple Smartphones

With the Somfy Connectivity Kit included, you can add Alexa or Hey Google voice control, so opening and closing your garage door can be as easy as speaking to your phone or smart speaker. Multiple smartphones can be set up for your family, giving everyone secure app access to the door without the need to buy extra handsets, although you still receive 2 Somfy RTS remote handsets as part of the standard SmartRoll 77 package.

Safe, Compliant Somfy Smart Roller Door

The GDO SmartRoll 77 is manufactured in the UK by GDO using 77mm double skinned insulated aluminium slats for strength, security and improved insulation. The door is fitted with a wired optical safety edge as standard, plus additional infra red safety beams for smartphone operation, providing obstacle detection that helps prevent the door from closing onto people, vehicles or other objects and ensuring full compliance with UK regulations for remote operated electric garage doors.

Somfy Connectivity Kit Included as Standard

As well as the Somfy Optimo motor and control panel, every SmartRoll 77 includes the Somfy Connectivity Kit to provide app-based smart control. This enables you to operate the roller door and other compatible Somfy RTS or IO protocol products via your smartphone, create convenient control groups and scenes, and benefit from remote control when you are away from home. Voice control with Alexa and Hey Google is supported through the same system, giving you flexible options for daily use.

Made to Measure Sizes and Colour Options

The SmartRoll 77 is made to measure, with sizes available up to 5200mm wide including the side guides and up to 2900mm high, plus a 300mm roll and endplate height above the opening. Aluminium side guides are 75mm or 90mm wide depending on door width, with doors over 3000mm supplied with 90mm guides as standard, meaning the clear opening width is 180mm less than the ordering width. The curtain is available in three popular standard high quality finish colours, with a choice of white, black or anthracite guides and an optional hood cover if required.

Emergency Manual Override and Access

For peace of mind, the SmartRoll 77 includes an internal manual winding handle system to operate the door in the event of a power failure. The winding point is positioned alongside the Somfy motor drive, and you can choose the side for operation at the time of ordering. An optional low-level external manual override is available if you do not have another access door into your garage.

Guide and Hood Colours

The aluminium side guides and any hood components can be supplied in White, Black or Anthracite to complement or contrast with your chosen curtain colour. Many customers choose matching guides for a clean, framed look or darker guides to highlight the opening.

No Hood, Half Hood or Full Hood

As standard this door can be supplied without a hood cover when fitted fully behind your garage opening, leaving the curtain roll visible inside the garage.

Choose a half hood cover to provide an aluminium fascia if you are installing underneath a lintel or between the opening and want to cloak the exposed section of the roll.

A full hood cover offers the highest level of protection for the rolled curtain and mechanism and gives the neatest, most enclosed finish, especially recommended for inbetween or external installations.

External Keyswitch (Optional)

If you often access your garage from outside or have no separate pedestrian access door, you can add a wall mounted external keyswitch. This provides simple key operated control for opening and closing the SmartRoll 77, using security keys and a robust steel housing for added protection.

Remote Controls and Additional Smart Options

Remote controls, Somfy smart control panel, wireless wall switch and the Somfy Connectivity Kit are all included as standard with this GDO SmartRoll 77 Somfy model, so no extra selection is required for everyday operation via handset, smartphone or voice control.

The GDO SmartRoll 77 is constructed from high quality 77mm deep, double skinned aluminium slats with a foam filled core. It is a made to measure, electric operated roller garage door as standard, manufactured to the exact millimetre in both width and height.

The door is electrically remote operated as standard and incorporates an internal emergency manual override in case of a power failure. Operation is via a winding handle supplied with the door, which hooks onto the eye of the Somfy motor drive. The override position can be specified on either the left or right when viewed from inside the garage.

The SmartRoll 77 is supplied with 2 Somfy remote handsets and an internal wall mounted control panel with inbuilt receiver for the remote controls. The bottom slat is extruded aluminium and fitted with a rubber seal system incorporating an infra red safety beam and wired optical safety edge. If an obstacle is detected when the door is operating, it will instantly stop (and reverse, depending on control settings) to help prevent damage or injury.

The curtain rolls around a steel barrel which is supported either side by steel endplates. The endplates are 300mm x 300mm, which is the headroom required if you wish to hide the roll behind a fascia or hood cover. Allow for up to 110mm of curtain hang-down into the guides when the door is fully open if the opening height is critical to you.

Door guides either side are either 75mm or 90mm wide and approximately 34mm deep, and the door is ordered using the Over Guide Width (OGW), which is the total width of the curtain and both guides combined.

The door can be fitted behind or inbetween the structural opening as required, but always check you have ordered the correct dimensions to allow for the guides, endplates and any hood cover (the full hood uses the same overall dimensions as the guides and endplates).

Somfy Connectivity Kit and Smart Control

Every GDO SmartRoll 77 is supplied with a Somfy Connectivity Kit, which allows you to control your garage door via the Somfy app on your smartphone as well as by handset and wall switch. Using this compact smart hub, you can operate the door from home or remotely, check its status, and combine it with other Somfy RTS and io-homecontrol products for grouped control.

Installing a GDO ROLL 77 insulated electric roller garage door is a straightforward process for a competent DIY enthusiast or tradesperson. Because every door is made to measure, it will arrive ready to fit your exact required dimensions.

Safety Note: A minimum of two people are required to safely lift the door curtain and motor assembly into place.

The GDO ROLL 77 is highly versatile and can be installed in three main ways depending on your garage structure:

• Internal Face Fit (Recommended): Fitting behind the brickwork piers. This is the most common installation method, keeping the guides, curtain roll, and motor fully concealed inside the garage while maximizing the drive-through width and height.
• Inbetween Fit (Reveal Fit): Fitting directly between the brickwork under the lintel. The guides and endplates will be visible from the outside, so choosing a half or full hood cover is recommended to tidy the exposed roll and protect it from the elements.
• External Face Fit: Fitting on the outside face of the garage. Ideal if you lack internal headroom. Note: A full hood cover must be ordered for external fitting to protect the curtain, guides, and motor from weather. The motor handing and curtain orientation will also be reversed.

The installation process generally follows these main stages (please refer to the full PDF instruction manual provided with your door for complete details):

1. Pre-Installation Check: Ensure all components are present, including the guides, barrel assembly, curtain, Somfy control panel, and accessories. Verify the opening is square and clear of obstructions.
2. Prepare the Guides: Pre-drill the 75mm or 90mm aluminium guide rails for fixing.
3. Fix the Guides and Endplates: Secure the guide rails and the 300mm steel endplates (or complete box assembly if a full hood is ordered) to the masonry or timber frame. Ensure everything is perfectly level and plumb.
4. Install the Axle and Motor: Secure the steel barrel and Somfy motor assembly between the endplates.
5. Fit the Emergency Override: Install the manual winding eyelet so it is accessible in the event of a power failure.
6. Insert the Curtain: Carefully guide the insulated aluminium curtain into the guide rails and attach the top locking straps to the barrel.
7. Wire the Control Panel: Mount the Somfy wall control panel internally (ensure a suitable 13-amp socket is nearby) and connect the motor and optical safety edge system.
8. Set Motor Limits: Use the supplied limits tool or control board to set the exact open and close stopping points for the door.

The Somfy wall-mounted control panel contains the radio receiver for the remote controls and wireless wall switch. Please note: The control box and its components are not waterproof and must always be installed internally or in a suitably rated waterproof casing if fitting the door externally.
