The Carlton is supplied with a classic 50/50 equal split as standard. However, if you primarily use your garage on foot, sizes up to 2234mm overall frame width (covering all 6'0, 6'6, and 7'0 wide models) can be ordered with a 1/3 and 2/3 split at no extra cost. This gives you a narrower, lighter everyday pedestrian door on one side, while still allowing both leaves to swing fully open whenever you need the full width of the garage. Handles and Internal Shoot Bolt Release

• Black lever handle inside and out (standard): Included as standard for straightforward everyday opening from either side.
• Black synthetic knob outside with lever inside: With a fixed external knob, the door latches shut automatically and can only be opened from outside with the key, ensuring it can never be left accidentally unlocked.
• Anodised aluminium lever handles in White: Matching internal and external lever set.
• Anodised aluminium lever handles in Chrome effect: Contemporary metallic internal and external lever set.

Inside the garage, a central flip up lever on the fixed leaf releases both the top and bottom shoot bolts simultaneously, so you do not need to reach up or bend down to open the second leaf.

Leading Leaf Handing

The leading leaf is the door you open first for pedestrian access and carries the outside handle. The right hand leaf leads as standard when viewed from outside. A left hand leading leaf is available at extra cost, ideal if a boundary wall, fence, or pathway makes opening the right hand door inconvenient.

50/50 or 1/3 and 2/3 Door Split

All standard sizes are supplied as an equal 50/50 split as standard. On the 6'0, 6'6, and 7'0 wide Carlton sizes, you can also specify a 1/3 and 2/3 split at the same price. Garador Steel Side Hinged Specification

Door Construction

Single skin high grade galvanised steel door panels built around a rigid welded steel box section chassis for strength and stability. Doors are factory powder coated in Traffic White (RAL 9016) inside and out as standard, with 18 optional powder coated colours available (see the Options tab for the full colour list).

Factory Framed Assembly

Every door comes prehung in its own rigid galvanised steel sub frame, factory finished in the same colour as the door leaves. The frame uprights are 75mm wide, the head is 60mm high, and the frame depth is 75mm. The right hand leaf leads as standard when viewed from outside.

Concealed Hinges

Heavy duty hinges are concealed within the 75mm steel frame, with no hinge knuckles standing proud of the exterior door face. This keeps the outside appearance clean and leaves nothing exposed to get a tool behind.

Two Point Shoot Bolt Locking

Internal shoot bolt latches secure the fixed leaf firmly at the top and bottom of the frame. The leading leaf then locks against it with a Euro cylinder mortice lock and lever handle set, while the overlapping centre stile helps prevent forced entry to the locking mechanism.

Door Stays and Gas Pistons

Both door leaves come complete with solid metal door stays with a pull cord release to hold the leaves securely open so wind cannot blow them shut. Hydraulic gas pistons are also fitted to each leaf to provide a smooth, controlled closing motion.

Weather Seals and Aluminium Threshold

Sturdy rubber weather seals are built into the steel frame along the door stop and the leading door leaf, sealing around three sides of the door to help prevent draughts. A 20mm high aluminium threshold is supplied as standard for the base of the door.

Handles and Internal Release

A black lever handle is supplied on the right hand side as standard (viewed from outside), paired with a centrally located flip up handle on the inside of the fixed leaf that releases the top and bottom shoot bolts in one movement.

Door Split and Operation

Supplied as an equal 50/50 split as standard, with a 1/3 and 2/3 split available on selected designs and widths (see the Options tab). Both door leaves open outwards as standard, leaving the full internal ceiling and wall space inside the garage completely clear.

All Garador garage doors comply with BS EN 13241 safety standards and are suitable for domestic garages and lightweight commercial use.

Installing Your Garador Steel Side Hinged Door

Every Garador steel side hinged door arrives fully assembled and hung in its steel frame, with the hinges, handle, locking, stays and gas pistons already fitted. Installation is mainly a case of fixing the frame squarely into the opening, so it's a manageable job for a competent DIYer with a helper. Plenty of customers use a local fitter too.

Installation instructions are supplied with every door.

Before You Fit

• A level floor is essential. The bottom shoot bolt drops into the floor, so the floor needs to be finished and level across the opening for the fixed leaf to lock properly
• The doors open outwards, so check the ground in front of the garage is clear and level enough for both leaves to swing fully open. A driveway that rises towards the garage can stop the leaves short
• The frame is designed to fit between the brickwork. Fitting behind the reveals isn't recommended
• Check the brickwork either side is sound enough to take fixings, especially on older garages
• Make sure the opening is within the minimum sizes shown on the Measure tab before fitting day

During Fitting

Fix the frame plumb and square, checking the diagonals. If the frame is twisted, the leaves won't meet evenly, the seals won't close properly and the shoot bolts may not line up. Once fixed, check both leaves swing freely and the stays engage.

Looking After Your Door

Garador steel doors are factory finished and don't need painting. Wash the door down with warm soapy water now and again, especially near the coast or a gritted road, and clean off anything corrosive straight away. Small scratches should be touched up promptly to stop corrosion getting started. Give the hinges, lock and shoot bolts a light lubricant once or twice a year, but don't oil the lock cylinder. Use graphite powder if it's sticking.

Garador Steel Side Hinged Door Warranty

Garador cover the safe and reliable function of their steel side hinged garage doors for 10 years from the date of purchase. A 5 year warranty applies to the hinges. Replacement parts are covered for 6 months, or to the end of the original warranty period, whichever is longer.

What's Covered

During the warranty period Garador will put right any defect that can be shown to be caused by a material or manufacturing fault. At their discretion they'll replace the faulty part, repair it or offer a reduction in price. The costs of removal, refitting and carriage aren't covered, and any replaced parts become the property of Garador Ltd.

Requirements

Warranty claims only apply in the country where the door was bought, the door must have been bought through Garador's authorised distribution, and the warranty only covers the door itself. You'll need the completed warranty card and your dated proof of purchase to make a claim.

What Isn't Covered

• Normal wear and tear
• Incorrect installation
• Lack of care and maintenance
• Incorrect use, at first or later on
• Deliberate or careless damage
• Fire, water, salts, alkaline solutions, acids and abnormal environmental conditions
• Damage in transport or fitting
• Priming and other surface treatments, including treatments applied incorrectly or too late
• Repairs by unqualified persons
• Use of non Garador parts without the manufacturer's approval
• Removal or defacing of the product number

Looking After the Finish

Minor scratches and marks aren't covered and should be touched up straight away to prevent corrosion. Touching up minor surface damage with a touch up spray or paint stick won't affect your warranty. Corrosive substances like salt should be washed off promptly.

Making a Claim

If you need to make a claim, please contact us with your name, address and phone number, your original invoice, the door type and product number, and a description of the problem. Garador may need to inspect the door in place. If the claim turns out not to be covered, the cost of the inspection visit may be charged.

Measuring for a Garador Steel Side Hinged Door, Standard Sizes

Standard size Garador side hinged doors are ordered by an imperial size, for example 7'0 x 6'6, which has a four digit Garador size code, in this case 7066. The imperial size isn't the actual size of the door. What matters is the overall size of the door and frame together, shown in the table below.

How to Measure

1. Measure the width of the opening brick to brick, at the top, middle and bottom. Use the smallest figure.
2. Measure the height from the finished floor to the underside of the lintel, on both sides and in the middle. Use the smallest figure.
3. Find the size in the table where your opening is at least as big as the minimum brickwork opening shown.

The overall sizes don't include any fitting tolerance. To fit between the brickwork, your opening needs to be at least 10mm wider and 5mm higher than the overall door and frame. These are total allowances, not per side, and they're already added to the minimum opening column.

Standard Size Table

Worked Example

Your brick to brick opening is 2250mm wide and 2050mm high. Size 7066 needs a minimum opening of 2244mm x 2046mm, so it fits, leaving 16mm on the width and 9mm on the height.

Clear Opening Inside the Frame

The frame uprights are 75mm wide and the head is 60mm high, so the clear opening inside the frame is 150mm narrower and 60mm lower than the overall size. On a 7066 that's 2084mm wide x 1981mm high between the frame. When the leaves are open, their thickness takes a little more off the usable width, so allow for this if you need to get a wide car through.

* Don't simply convert feet and inches to millimetres. Always work from the overall sizes in the table.

* Only Carlton is available in the 6'0 and 6'6 widths and in the 6'0 heights. All other steel designs start at 7'0 x 6'4.
