Options to Configure Your Door

Carteck XL insulated sectional doors are supplied as fully automatic doors as standard, so choosing your specification is mainly about the final appearance and how you would like to control the door.

  • Door colour
GarageDoorsOnline offer a choice of 44 beautiful factory finished colours for this door. Many colours are available at no extra cost, with a selection of special finishes and effects available at an additional charge.
  • Panel surface textures
Choose the external surface texture of the door panels to suit your property. There are four options available: Smooth, Woodgrain, Stucco and Micro profile.
  • Frame finish
The steel fixing frame legs and head section are supplied in white as standard. If you are fitting the door between your brickwork opening you can upgrade to have the frame factory finished in a colour to closely match the door panels for a more integrated look.
  • Emergency external manual release
If your garage door is the only access into your garage, we strongly recommend adding an external emergency manual release so that you can still open the door from outside in the event of a power cut.
  • Control and access options
As standard, the electric operator is supplied with two remote control handsets and an internal control button. There are many additional control options available, including alternative wall controls and access systems, so please contact us to discuss your requirements if the standard remote handsets are not sufficient for your needs.

Carteck XL rear torsion springs

Installation Guidance – XL Georgian Insulated Sectional Garage Door

Supplied as standard with a rear mounted torsion spring mechanism and boom style electric motor drive. The information below provides general installation guidance and key points to consider when preparing the opening and planning the fit. Installation instructins are provided with every door and available as a PDF download. There is also a generic video guide to show a door being installed and it is only the rear spring system differeing to other Carteck sectional door models

General installation requirements

  • The door must be installed by a competent installer familiar with sectional garage door systems.
  • The supporting structure (walls, lintel and ceiling) must be sound, level and capable of taking the fixing loads.
  • The floor at the threshold should be as level as possible to allow the bottom seal to sit correctly and provide an effective weather barrier.
  • All measurements should be checked carefully before ordering, including clear opening width, clear opening height, headroom and sideroom.

Headroom and sideroom

  • Rear mounted torsion spring gear is fitted above the opening on the inside face of the garage.
  • A minimum clear headroom is required to accommodate the spring shaft, cable drums and horizontal tracks (exact dimensions depend on door size and configuration).
  • Sideroom is required on both sides of the opening for the frame legs, track brackets and fixings. Tolerances for fitting would be required when nstalling between the opening and possible some extra profiles for a clean finish on the surround.

Rear‑mounted torsion spring system

  • The torsion spring shaft is installed along the rear of the lintel line, inside the garage, supported by secure brackets fixed to the structure.
  • Springs are pre selected and set to match the weight and size of the XL door, ensuring balanced lifting and controlled movement.
  • Lift cables run from the bottom corner brackets up to the cable drums on the spring shaft, providing smooth, even lifting across the full width of the door.
  • Correct spring tensioning is essential for safe and reliable operation and must only be carried out using the appropriate tools and methods.

Track and frame installation

  • Vertical frame legs are fixed either behind or between the reveals, depending on the chosen installation position and structure.
  • Horizontal tracks are aligned with the vertical guides and secured to the ceiling or roof structure using suitable hangers and brackets.
  • Tracks must be level, parallel and correctly positioned to ensure the door moves freely without binding or excessive play.
  • All fixings should be checked and tightened to the recommended levels before commissioning the door.

Electric motor drive – standard

  • The XL door is supplied as standard with an electric rail drive operator matched to the size and weight of the door.
  • The motor unit is usually mounted to the garage ceiling, with the drive rail aligned centrally to the door and connected to the top panel via a carriage arm.
  • A suitable 13 A single‑phase power supply is required, installed in accordance with current electrical regulations.
  • Limit settings for open and closed positions are adjusted during commissioning so the door stops accurately at both ends of travel.
  • Safety features such as force monitoring and auto‑reverse must be tested after installation to confirm correct operation.

Alignment, checks and commissioning

  • Before first powered operation, the door should be tested manually to confirm smooth, balanced movement without catching or rubbing.
  • Panel joints, hinges and rollers should be checked to ensure they are correctly seated in the tracks and free from obstruction.
  • Once the motor is connected, open and close cycles should be run to fine‑tune limits and verify smooth acceleration and stopping.
  • Safety stop and reverse functions must be tested using an appropriate obstruction to ensure compliance with safety requirements.

Ongoing maintenance after installation

  • Fixings, brackets and track supports should be visually checked at regular intervals for tightness and signs of wear.
  • Rollers, hinges and moving parts may require periodic lubrication with a suitable light oil or manufacturer‑approved product.
  • The door surface and seals should be kept clean to maintain smooth operation and protect the finish.
  • Any adjustments to the torsion spring system or major components should only be carried out by a trained installer or service engineer.

Because of the size and weight of the Carteck XL sectional door, professional installation is strongly recommended to ensure correct operation, full safety performance and long‑term reliability.
