Every pair of side hinged garage doors offered by GarageDoorsOnline includes everything you require for a complete installation to a structural opening. We deliver most doors to you with nearly every component preinstalled and ready to offer into the opening. Many other companies offer what appear to be low priced side hinged doors but they often are only the actual door leaves without a fixing frame or any furniture and locking. We also offer fully finished on all doors, no painting for the doors or the sub frame.
We include the hinges, the handles, the locking and any relevant weatherstripping and perhaps most importantly the fixing sub frame. We are selling you a complete ‘doorset’ in most cases for the easiest possible installation and best final result, with every component completely compatible and tested together for quality and suitability.
Steel Side Hinged Doors
GarageDoorsOnline offer 2 distinct types of steel side hinged garage doors, either a single skin pressed steel type or a more robust and insulated double skin type, usually 40mm thick or more and with a far greater ability to accommodate larger and better locking systems so by default, far more secure. Most doors come with a box section steel fixing sub frame which is factory fitted and highly recommended to provide the best overall installation and result. Prices for double skin doors will be higher than the single skin but this isn’t just about the insulation. It is the durability, security, furniture options, windows and yes, insulation as a bonus for a garage which needs good weather protection.
Insulated Double Skin Steel Side Hinged Doors.
The Carteck, Hormann and Ryterna insulated steel side hinged doors are ALL ordered by their Overall Width and Overall Height dimensions including the fixing sub frame. All these doors are offered in purpose made sizes as standard for the perfect fit and easiest installation every time. Order by the overall dimensions in millimetres, and in our online shop simply go to the nearest size up from the size you require.
Eg. You require a pair of doors with an overall width and height WITH the fixing sub frame of 2280mm wide and 2150mm high. Go to the ‘up to 2300mm’ width and the ‘up to 2200mm’ height and once chosen you have your price and you can specify the exact dimensions next.
Allow for a tolerance in your sizing of at least 100mm off the structural opening size all round.
Single Skin Steel Side Hinged Doors
The GDO and Garador steel side hinged doors we offer are all available in standard and purpose made size ranges.
Standard Door Size Ordering – All single skin steel standard size doors are ordered by their standard order size ‘reference’ (a dimension referred in imperial sizing), which refers to the internal dimensions of the sub frame, which is fitted as standard at the factory and finished in the same colour as the door panels as standard. It is possible to order the GDO doors without a sub frame and they then need to fit to an existing sub frame, usually timber.
Purpose Made Door Size Ordering – All purpose made single skin steel doors are ordered by the Overall Width and Overall Height, including the steel sub frame which is factory pre-fitted for easy on site installation.
You will see ‘Up to’ sizes referred to and you simply choose the next size reference up from the size you require and then state the exact ordering size in a separate box when processing. Always allow for a tolerance of a minimum of 10mm all round based on your internal structural opening sizes when ordering.
Timber Side Hinged Doors
We offer a massive range of styles and designs in timber and also various timber species, softwood and hardwood, as well as the unique and superb Accoya timber. Accoya timber holds a very long warranty because of its pre-treatments and properties.
We offer timber side hinged doors either manufactured in a traditional method with mortice and tenon jointing, or an alternative range by GDO and Garador - Timber sections fixed into a steel chassis, where the main door strength is in the chassis itself and the timber acts more like a decorative cladding. These steel chassis timber doors have a steel box section fixing sub frame also fitted as standard to be added onto the dimensions when ordering.
Standard Timber Side Hinged Doors

All standard timber side hinged garage doors are ordered by their standard order size ‘reference’ (a dimension referred in imperial sizing), which refers to the internal dimensions of the sub frame.
The sub frame sizing has to be added to your calculations if required – either supplied by us or already sourced or fitted but the internal dimensions of the sub frame are the ordering sizes for us and the relevant tolerances will be deducted for installation.
It is possible to order many doors without a sub frame and they then need to fit to an existing sub frame, usually timber. For standard timber doors in a steel chassis with a steel sub frame be careful to check the dimensions of the steel sub frame.
Purpose Made Timber Side Hinged Doors
For the purpose made Woodrite and Cedar traditional side hinged doors, the internal dimensions of the fixing sub frame are the ordering and pricing dimensions to use. Take the internal dimensions of the relevant sub frame (some different sizes are available) and these are the ordering sizes and tolerances will be deducted as necessary at the factory for the door leaf sizes.
For ONLY the GDO and Garador steel chassis timber side hinged doors, the online ordering and pricing is by the Overall Width and Overall Height, including the box section steel sub frame which is included in the price, as well as it being factory assembled with all furniture fitted for the very easiest on site installation.
