Hormann Garage Door Standards and Performance Ratings

Every Hormann garage door supplied in the UK is tested and certified to BS EN 13241 product performance standards. For UK homeowners, builders, and specifiers, these ratings provide verified data on thermal efficiency, weather sealing, wind load resistance, and day-to-day operational safety. All automated Hormann systems carry full UKCA/CE compliance as an integrated door and motor unit.

Hormann tests four main performance criteria: thermal insulation, acoustic reduction, air and water tightness, and wind pressure resistance. These ratings make it easy to choose the right door specification depending on whether your garage is attached to the house, used as a heated workshop, or exposed to high winds.

Insulated Sectional Doors

Hormann double-skinned sectional doors are the industry benchmark for insulation, rigidity, and smooth operation. The range features the popular 42mm LPU 42 panel as well as the flagship 67mm LPU 67 Thermo panel, which uses thermal breaks between sections to prevent cold bridging. These doors are ideal for attached garages, utility rooms, or spaces with living accommodation overhead where heat loss and draughts are a major concern. Factory pre-drilled tracks and panels ensure accurate, square installation every time.

Thermal Insulation (U-Values)
Double-skinned steel (LPU 67 Thermo 67mm) - Section Panel U = 0.33 W/m²K
Double-skinned steel (LPU 67 Thermo 67mm) - Fitted Door* U = 1.00 W/m²K (Up to 0.88 with ThermoFrame)
Double-skinned steel (LPU 42 42mm) - Section Panel U = 0.50 W/m²K
Double-skinned steel (LPU 42 42mm) - Fitted Door* U = 1.30 W/m²K (Up to 1.10 with ThermoFrame)
Solid timber infill (LTH 42) - Fitted Door* U = 2.90 W/m²K
Acoustic Insulation
Double-skinned steel (LPU 67 Thermo) R = approx. 25 dB
Double-skinned steel (LPU 42) R = approx. 22 to 25 dB
Weather Sealing & Wind Pressure (BS EN 13241)
Air Permeability (LPU 42 / LPU 67 Ribbed & Panelled) Class 2 to Class 3
Water Tightness (LPU 42 / LPU 67 Double-skinned) Class 3 (resists driving rain up to 70 Pa)
Resistance to Wind Load Class 3 (handles wind speeds up to approx. 75 mph)

*U-values apply to fitted doors without glazing across an installed door area of 10m².

Insulated Side Hinged Doors

Hormann insulated side hinged doors use identical 42mm double-skinned foam-filled steel panels built into an aluminium box-section frame. They are designed for garages used predominantly for pedestrian access, workshop storage, or home gyms where you do not want overhead ceiling tracks. Factory-fitted rubber compression seals on all four sides prevent draughts, and standard 3-point shoot-bolt locking provides strong mechanical security.

Aluminium Roller Doors

The Hormann RollMatic series is tested as a complete package with internal tubular or external direct-drive motors. Insulated twin-wall aluminium slats filled with rigid foam provide good acoustic and thermal performance, while the compact box design preserves full ceiling storage. All RollMatic doors meet UK safety regulations through built-in optical sensors, auto-reverse obstacle detection, and mechanical counterbalancing spring systems.

Up and Over Doors

Hormann 2000 series canopy and retractable up and over doors remain the classic UK standard. Available in ribbed or panelled steel, timber, and GRP, they are tested for anti-drop safety with multi-spring counterbalancing and tamper-proof multi-point latching. Retractable versions are fully compatible with Hormann Promatic and Supramatic electric operators for automatic locking with physical anti-lift catches.

UK Certifications and Building Compliance

  • UKCA and CE Marked: Fully certified under BS EN 13241 for dynamic safety, anti-pinch finger protection, obstacle reversal, and drop prevention.
  • Secured by Design (SBD): Selected automated Hormann sectional, roller, and side hinged doors can be specified with Police Preferred SBD accreditation or certified RC2 mechanical burglar resistance.
  • Building Regulations Part L: 42mm and 67mm insulated sectional doors easily meet thermal compliance requirements for integrated garages or garage conversions.
