GDO SmartRoll 77 Somfy Remote Control with Smartphone Control
The GDO SmartRoll 77 is a made to measure insulated electric roller garage door with Somfy remote control, smartphone control and enhanced safety equipment included as standard. Manufactured in the UK to your exact width and height requirements, it combines a strong 77mm insulated aluminium curtain with convenient control from remote handsets, an internal wall switch or the Somfy smartphone app.
Somfy Remote and Smartphone Control
This model uses a Somfy Optimo control panel with integrated receiver for dependable remote control operation. The door is supplied with two Somfy RTS Keygo remote control handsets and a wireless internal Somfy wall switch for convenient one touch opening and closing from inside the garage.
The included Somfy Connectivity Kit allows you to control the door through the free and very intuitive Somfy smartphone app, whether you are at home or away. This gives you convenient access from anywhere with an internet connection and allows multiple family smartphones to be connected.
You still receive two Somfy remote handsets with the door, providing reliable everyday operation from a vehicle or driveway as well as smartphone control.
The Connectivity Kit can also be used to control compatible Somfy RTS and io products through the TaHoma app, including selected blinds, shutters, awnings, lighting and other Somfy home automation products.
Enhanced Safety for Smart Control
The bottom slat is manufactured from extruded aluminium and fitted with a rubber weather seal incorporating an optical safety edge. If the door detects an obstacle while closing, it stops and automatically reverses to help protect people, vehicles and property.
Additional infra red safety beams are included with this fully smart enabled door. These monitor the opening while the door is closing and provide the additional protection required for operation and automated actions through the smartphone app.
With the included infra red safety beams, you can also configure automatic closing after a pre-set time once the door has fully opened. This can be useful if you want added reassurance that the garage door is not accidentally left open.

Strong, Insulated Construction
The GDO SmartRoll 77 is constructed using 77mm deep, double skinned aluminium slats with an insulated foam filled core. The curtain rolls compactly above the opening, helping preserve valuable space inside your garage.
The door is supplied with a full hood enclosure in a matching colour, providing a neat and fully enclosed finish around the curtain roll, barrel and operating components.
Made to Measure Sizes
The GDO SmartRoll 77 is available made to measure up to 5200mm wide, including the side guides, and up to 2900mm guide height. Allow approximately 300mm above the guide height for the curtain roll and endplates.
Doors up to 3000mm wide use 75mm side guides. Doors over 3000mm wide use 90mm side guides, reducing the clear opening width by 180mm compared with the overall ordering width.
Manual Override and Access
An internal manual winding system is supplied for use during a power cut. The winding handle connects to the motor drive and allows you to operate the door manually from inside the garage.
Choose the motor, power cable and manual override position on the left or right side when viewed from inside the garage. If there is no alternative access into your garage, an optional low level external manual override can be selected to help provide access during a power failure.

Somfy Remote and Smartphone Control
This GDO SmartRoll 77 model uses a Somfy Optimo control box with an integrated receiver for reliable remote control operation.
Your door is supplied with two Somfy RTS remote control handsets, a wireless Somfy wall switch and the Somfy Connectivity Kit for smartphone control. Use the supplied remote controls from your vehicle or driveway, operate the door from inside the garage with the wireless wall switch, or control it remotely using the TaHoma app on a compatible smartphone.
The Somfy Connectivity Kit connects the garage door to your home WiFi network. It allows compatible Somfy RTS and io products to be controlled through the TaHoma app, including selected garage doors, blinds, shutters, awnings and lighting.
Please note that the Somfy Optimo control box does not include built in control buttons or a courtesy light.
Safety and Manual Override
The bottom slat is manufactured from extruded aluminium and includes a rubber weather seal with an optical safety edge. If the door detects an obstacle while closing, it will stop and automatically reverse.
This SmartRoll specification also includes external infrared safety beams. These monitor the opening while the door is closing and provide the additional protection required for full smartphone control and automated smart functions.
An internal manual override is supplied as standard for use during a power cut. The supplied winding handle connects to the motor drive, allowing the door to be opened or closed manually from inside the garage.
Choose whether the motor, power cable and manual override are located on the left or right side when viewed from inside the garage.
Full Hood Enclosure
This is the full hood version of the GDO SmartRoll 77. The full hood encloses the curtain roll and barrel, apart from the opening where the curtain enters the guide rails.
It provides a neat, fully finished appearance and helps protect the curtain roll, barrel and operating components from weather, wind blown debris, dust and accidental contact.
A full hood is particularly suitable for external installations, between opening fitting, exposed locations or garages where there is insufficient internal headroom to conceal the curtain roll behind the lintel.
Roll, Endplates and Headroom
The curtain rolls around a durable steel barrel, supported by steel endplates on each side. Allow approximately 300mm above the guide height for the curtain roll, barrel and endplates.
When the door is fully open, allow up to 110mm for the bottom slat to hang down within the guides. This should be considered where maximum clear drive through height is important for a vehicle, roof box or stored equipment.

Guides, Sizes and Clear Openings
The aluminium side guides are approximately 34mm deep and are supplied in one of two widths, depending on the overall door width. Your ordering size is stated as Over Guide Width (OGW) x Guide Height (GH).
Over Guide Width is the total width of the curtain and both side guides combined. The door can be fitted behind the opening or between the opening. Always allow for the guides, endplates, full hood and any required side room when checking the available installation space.

The maximum overall width, including guides, is 5200mm. The maximum guide height is 2900mm. At the maximum guide height, allow approximately 300mm above the guides for the curtain roll, endplates and full hood, creating an overall height of around 3200mm. The maximum door width at this height is 4600mm.
Fitting Positions
Between the Opening
The door is fitted within the structural opening. This provides a recessed appearance, but the guides reduce the available clear opening width and the bottom slat hang down reduces the available clear opening height.
Behind the Opening
The door is fitted to the wall face behind the structural opening. This is the most popular fitting position because it provides the maximum available clear opening width and height.
Behind opening fitting can also be used for external installation. In this situation, the motor handing and curtain orientation are reversed. The full hood enclosure provides suitable protection for the curtain roll and operating components.

The Connectivity Kit is for indoor use only. It can control individual products or groups of compatible products through the TaHoma app, with access available from compatible smartphones and voice assistants where supported.
Please note that the Connectivity Kit does not support sensors, security systems or heating systems. It supports manual scenes in the app, but does not provide scheduled or advanced scenes. It is not compatible with the TaHoma switch USB adapter or Ethernet adapter.

Before You Start
The GDO SmartRoll 77 Total Smart roller garage door is designed for installation by a competent DIY installer or experienced tradesperson. Although each door is manufactured to your exact measurements, it is essential to survey the opening carefully and confirm that there is adequate structural support, side room and headroom before installation begins.
Safety note: At least two people are required to safely lift and position the frame, curtain, barrel and motor assembly. Take care when working at height, handling heavy components and connecting the electrical supply.
Check that the garage floor is level across the full opening. This allows the bottom rubber weather seal to compress evenly and helps ensure the optical safety edge operates correctly.
Space Required
Allow approximately 300mm above the guide height for the curtain roll, endplates and full hood enclosure.
For face fitting behind the opening, ensure there is sufficient solid wall or frame material on both sides to securely fix the guide rails:
- Doors up to 3000mm wide: Allow at least 75mm of solid fixing surface on each side.
- Doors over 3000mm wide: Allow at least 90mm of solid fixing surface on each side.
Check the location of the mains power supply before installation. The Somfy control box, Connectivity Kit and associated electrical connections must be installed inside the garage in a dry, protected location.
Installation Positions
Internal Face Fit
Internal face fitting, also known as fitting behind the opening, is the most common and generally recommended method. The guides are fixed to the inside wall face behind the brickwork piers, providing the maximum possible clear drive through width and height.
The full hood enclosure houses the curtain roll and barrel inside the garage, creating a neat and protected finish around the operating components.
Between Opening Fit
Between opening fitting positions the guides within the structural opening beneath the lintel. This can provide a recessed appearance, but the guides reduce the available clear opening width and the bottom slat hang down reduces the available clear opening height.
The supplied full hood enclosure helps create a finished appearance around the curtain roll and provides protection for the operating components.
External Face Fit
External face fitting positions the door on the outside wall face of the garage. This can be useful where there is insufficient internal headroom, limited internal side room or an unsuitable internal fixing position.
For external fitting, the curtain orientation and motor handing are reversed. The full hood enclosure is essential to protect the curtain roll, barrel and operating components from weather, debris and accidental contact.
Installation Overview
The following steps provide a general installation overview. Refer to the QR code and the instructions supplied with your door for the complete procedure, wiring diagram and programming sequence.
- Check the delivery: Confirm that all components are present and undamaged, including the full hood sections, guides, endplates, barrel and motor assembly, curtain, Somfy control equipment, Connectivity Kit, infrared safety beams, optical safety edge components, remote controls and accessories.
- Prepare the opening: Confirm that the floor is level, the opening is square and clear of obstructions, and the fixing surfaces are strong enough to support the full door assembly.
- Assemble the frame and hood: Assemble the guide rails, endplates and full hood sections on a clean, level surface in accordance with the supplied instructions.
- Position and secure the frame: Lift the assembled frame into position. Check that both guides are plumb and the endplates are level before securing the guides to suitable masonry, timber or steelwork with appropriate fixings.
- Install the barrel and motor: Position the Somfy tubular motor at the selected motor side and install the barrel and safety brake between the endplates as shown in the supplied instructions.
- Fit the curtain: Carefully feed the insulated curtain into the guide rails and attach it to the barrel with the supplied locking straps or fixings.
- Install the manual override: Fit the manual override eye and confirm that the winding handle can be used safely from inside the garage during a power cut.
- Install the safety equipment: Fit the wired optical safety edge and the infrared safety beams in the specified positions. Ensure that the beam path is clear and aligned before commissioning the door.
- Install the Somfy controls: Mount the Somfy Optimo control box in a dry internal location. Connect the motor, optical safety edge, infrared safety beams and mains power exactly as shown in the supplied wiring diagram.
- Connect the Connectivity Kit: Position the Somfy Connectivity Kit indoors within range of your home WiFi network. Follow the TaHoma app instructions to connect the kit, pair the garage door and add authorised smartphone users.
- Set limits and test: Set the upper and lower motor travel limits using the supplied instructions. Test the two remote handsets, wireless wall switch, smartphone control, manual override, optical safety edge and infrared safety beams before normal use.
Somfy Controls and Safety Equipment
The Somfy Optimo control box, Connectivity Kit and their electrical connections are not weatherproof. They must always be installed inside the garage or within a suitably rated weatherproof enclosure.
The wireless wall switch can be positioned inside the garage where it is most convenient. The Somfy Connectivity Kit must be connected to a suitable home WiFi network to enable smartphone control through the TaHoma app.
Both safety systems must be tested before the door is used. The optical safety edge should stop and reverse the door if it contacts an obstruction while closing. The infrared safety beams should prevent or stop closing if their beam is interrupted.
Final Checks
Before using the door normally, confirm that the guides are secure, the full hood is correctly fitted, the curtain travels smoothly, the motor limits are correctly set and all controls operate as expected.
Do not use smartphone operation or automated functions until the safety edge and infrared safety beams have been fitted, aligned and tested successfully. If you are unsure about any part of the installation, electrical connections or smart control setup, contact our technical team before using the door.
