GDO ROLL Electric Aluminium Roller Garage Door with Somfy Remote & Wireless Wall Switch
The new GDO ROLL77 combines advanced Somfy control technology with precision engineering for the ideal balance of performance, convenience and value. Each door is purpose made to the millimetre and supplied complete with Somfy Optimo remote control operation and a free internal wireless wall-mounted Somfy button switch, giving you effortless control from both inside and outside your garage.
Constructed using 77mm double-skinned insulated aluminium slats, the GDO ROLL provides excellent strength and insulation, helping to keep your garage secure and more energy efficient throughout the year. Every door is manufactured in the UK by GDO, providing the very best service and back up from a leading garage door manufacturer and online supplier for electric garage doors, and is built using high quality materials and modern production techniques for long-lasting reliability, backed by a 2 to 5 year warranty.
Each model includes a wired optical safety edge system for advanced obstacle detection and full compliance with UK safety standards for motorised roller garage doors. Two Somfy RTS handsets are supplied as standard, along with an internal wall control panel for practical, everyday operation.
The GDO ROLL can be made to measure up to 5200mm wide and 2900mm high, with compact rolling dimensions for maximum headroom and ceiling clearance. Aluminium side guides in 75mm or 90mm widths (depending on door size) ensure smooth, precise movement and a neat, professional finish. The door curtain is available in three high quality finish colours, with a choice of white, black or anthracite guides and an optional matching hood cover for a clean and modern appearance.
In the event of a power failure, the GDO ROLL features an internal manual winding handle located beside the motor drive, with the operation side selectable at the time of ordering. A low level external manual override is also available if there is no separate access door into the garage.
With its combination of Somfy smart control, robust insulated construction, UK manufacture by GDO and excellent value, the GDO ROLL is one of the most popular electric roller garage doors available, providing modern convenience, security and long term performance for any home.

The GDO ROLL 77 is constructed from high quality 77mm deep, double skinned aluminium slats with a foam filled core. It is a made to measure, electric operated roller garage door as standard, manufactured to the exact millimetre in both width and height.
The door is electrically remote operated as standard and incorporates an internal emergency manual override in case of a power failure. Operation is via a winding handle supplied with the door, which hooks onto the eye of the motor drive. The override position can be specified on either the left or right when viewed from inside the garage.
This Somfy model is supplied with 2 Somfy RTS remote handsets and an internal wall mounted Somfy control panel with built-in receiver for the remote controls and wireless wall switch. The bottom slat is extruded aluminium and fitted with a rubber seal system incorporating an optical safety edge. If any obstacle is detected while the door is closing, it will immediately stop and reverse to help prevent damage or injury.
The curtain rolls around a steel barrel which is supported either side by steel endplates. The endplates are 300mm x 300mm, which is the headroom required if you wish to fully hide the rolled curtain behind a fascia or hood cover. Always allow for up to 50mm of curtain hang-down into the guides when the door is open if the opening height is critical to you.

Door guides either side are either 75mm or 90mm wide and approximately 34mm deep, and the door is ordered using the Over Guide Width (OGW) which is the total width of the curtain and both guides combined.
The door can be fitted behind or inbetween the structural opening as required, but you must always check you have ordered the correct dimensions to allow for the guides, endplates and any hood cover (the full hood uses the same overall dimensions as the guides and endplates).
Ordering size: Over Guide Width (OGW) x Guide Height (GH).
Doors up to 3000mm wide
Guides: 75mm wide each side
Clear opening width = Ordering width less 150mm
Clear opening height = Guide height (ordering size) less 50mm
Doors over 3000mm wide
Guides: 90mm wide each side
Clear opening width = Ordering width less 180mm
Clear opening height = Guide height (ordering size) less 50mm
(to allow for the bottom slat hang-down into the guides when the door is open)
Maximum width including guides is 5200mm.
Maximum guide height is 2900mm. Overall height including endplates and any hood is approximately 3200mm, with a maximum width of 4600mm at this height.
Standard curtain and guide colours:
White (RAL 9016)
Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016)
Black (RAL 9005)
Fitting positions
> Between the opening (reveal fit)
Used where there are no internal reveals to face fit to, or where one side is a house wall and the other is a garage pier. Inbetween installation usually means the endplates and roller curtain are fitted underneath the lintel and then a fascia is required, which can be a half or full hood cover, or a site-made fascia if preferred.
> Behind the opening (face fit)
For maximum width and height. This gives flexibility to fit in more complex openings regardless of shape. Single and double garage door sizes are possible, making it very practical for larger vehicles such as 4x4s that need more drive-through space. This configuration can also be used for external face fitting, but please note the motor handing and curtain orientation will be reversed.
Hood cover option
You can choose from no hood, half hood or full hood cover depending on your installation type and the level of protection and finish required around the curtain roll.

Please note: upon delivery, the accessory box will include a QR code to direct you to the most up-to-date installation instructions.
Installing a GDO ROLL 77 insulated electric roller garage door is a straightforward process for a competent DIY enthusiast or tradesperson. Because every door is made to measure, it will arrive ready to fit your exact required dimensions.
Safety Note: A minimum of two people are required to safely lift the door curtain and motor assembly into place.
The GDO ROLL 77 is highly versatile and can be installed in three main ways depending on your garage structure:
- Internal Face Fit (Recommended): Fitting behind the brickwork piers. This is the most common installation method, keeping the guides, curtain roll, and motor fully concealed inside the garage while maximizing the drive-through width and height.
- Inbetween Fit (Reveal Fit): Fitting directly between the brickwork under the lintel. The guides and endplates will be visible from the outside, so choosing a half or full hood cover is recommended to tidy the exposed roll and protect it from the elements.
- External Face Fit: Fitting on the outside face of the garage. Ideal if you lack internal headroom. Note: A full hood cover must be ordered for external fitting to protect the curtain, guides, and motor from weather. The motor handing and curtain orientation will also be reversed.
The installation process generally follows these main stages (please refer to the full PDF instruction manual provided with your door for complete details):
- Pre-Installation Check: Ensure all components are present, including the guides, barrel assembly, curtain, Somfy control panel, and accessories. Verify the opening is square and clear of obstructions.
- Prepare the Guides: Pre-drill the 75mm or 90mm aluminium guide rails for fixing.
- Fix the Guides and Endplates: Secure the guide rails and the 300mm steel endplates (or complete box assembly if a full hood is ordered) to the masonry or timber frame. Ensure everything is perfectly level and plumb.
- Install the Axle and Motor: Secure the steel barrel and Somfy motor assembly between the endplates.
- Fit the Emergency Override: Install the manual winding eyelet so it is accessible in the event of a power failure.
- Insert the Curtain: Carefully guide the insulated aluminium curtain into the guide rails and attach the top locking straps to the barrel.
- Wire the Control Panel: Mount the Somfy wall control panel internally (ensure a suitable 13-amp socket is nearby) and connect the motor and optical safety edge system.
- Set Motor Limits: Use the supplied limits tool or control board to set the exact open and close stopping points for the door.
The Somfy wall-mounted control panel contains the radio receiver for the remote controls and wireless wall switch. Please note: The control box and its components are not waterproof and must always be installed internally or in a suitably rated waterproof casing if fitting the door externally.

Ordering Size is the Over Guide Width (OGW) x Guide Height (GH).
Doors up to 3000mm wide have 75mm wide guides
Ordering width = Opening size + 150mm*
Doors over 3000mm wide have 90mm wide guides
Ordering width = Opening size + 180mm*
* These measurements are correct for behind fit installations, please contact us for guidance inbetween fit installations.
Clear opening height = guide height - 110mm (to allow for the bottom slat hand-down into the guide).
Overall Height is the guide height plus the endplate size at 300mm
