SeceuroGlide Excel Security Electric Roller Garage Door with Full Hood – Woodgrain Finish

Individually manufactured to your exact opening dimensions, the SeceuroGlide Excel with Full Hood in Woodgrain Finish brings together authentic timber aesthetics, certified physical attack resistance, and a fully enclosed overhead casing. Developed by SWS UK from over 40 years of commercial physical security shutter engineering, the Excel was the first roller garage door tested and certified to LPS 1175 Level 1 (Issue 5, Cert/LPCB ref. 390b/01). It holds official Secured by Design police preferred status and full recognition from major UK home insurance underwriters.

The exterior of the door curtain is finished with an authentic, textured Renolit woodgrain laminate foil designed to complement high-grade timber, composite entrance doors, and modern uPVC window profiles. Because these specialist laminate foils offer superior UV stability and weather fastness against sun and rain, the curtain finish is backed by an extended 10 year manufacturer finish warranty.

Why Specify the Woodgrain Full Hood Model?

  • Authentic timber character without the upkeep: Delivers the rich appearance and textured grain of natural wood without ever needing sanding, staining, or varnishing.
  • 10 year laminate foil protection: High performance exterior foil wrapping resists peeling, delamination, chalking, and UV fading, keeping its appearance for years to come.
  • Integral garages and high value storage: Ideal for properties where an attached garage connects directly into the home, or where classic vehicles, high end bikes, and workshop tools require verified physical protection.
  • Fully boxed aluminium casing: The supplied full hood enclosure (front fascia and top/back lid) neatly conceals the rolled curtain, steel axle, and motor wiring while preventing roof dust, cobwebs, and grit from settling into the coil.
  • Architectural window coordination: 7 dedicated grained foil finishes allow seamless colour matching with modern window and door installations, including Golden Oak, Rosewood, Mahogany, White Woodgrain, Black Woodgrain, Irish Oak, and Anthracite.

Curtain Construction and Reverse Face Details

The curtain is constructed from twin walled, insulated aluminium slats filled with dense CFC free polyurethane foam, coiling vertically into the overhead 300mm aluminium hood box to preserve maximum drive through clearance and garage headroom.

When selecting your woodgrain finish, note the appearance of the internal curtain face when viewing from inside the garage:

  • Golden Oak, Rosewood, Mahogany, White Woodgrain, and Black Woodgrain: Grained laminate foil applied to the exterior face, with standard complementary base colour on the reverse.
  • Irish Oak: Natural light oak timber grain on the exterior face, bonded onto a brown base slat colour that shows on the inside of the garage.
  • Anthracite Woodgrain: Textured contemporary grey grain on the exterior face, bonded onto a white base slat colour that shows on the inside of the garage.

Engineered Security Construction

Unlike standard domestic roller doors adapted with surface locks, the Excel incorporates heavy duty physical security hardware directly into its core structure:

  • Solid aluminium autolocks: Heavy duty extruded locking straps and an uprated top rail automatically clamp the curtain down when closed to resist forced upward jacking.
  • Reinforced bottom locking slat: Rigid extruded base section fitted with heavy gauge guide anchors and steel pins that locate firmly into the tracks, preventing the curtain from being forced sideways or jemmied upward.
  • Widespan 90mm guide channels: Deep extruded aluminium guides with high retention tracks to hold the curtain securely under physical attack.
  • 100mm fluted axle and steel endplates: Heavy duty steel axle and robust endplates prevent structural deflection and spreading.

Automation Systems: SeceuroDrive or Somfy Rollixo Upgrade

The door is automated as standard with the high torque SeceuroDrive tubular motor and wall mounted SeceuroSense Plus smart receiver, backed by a 7 year manufacturer warranty. The receiver unit includes a built in LED courtesy light, push button controls, and quick limit setup functions.

You can also choose the optional Somfy Rollixo RTS Upgrade, pairing an authentic Somfy motor drive with Somfy Rollixo RTS controls, Somfy Keygo handsets, and an integrated 105dB acoustic anti-tamper alarm as standard that sounds immediately if bottom slat tampering is detected.

Safety and Access Compliance Guidance

  • Mandatory secondary access: In accordance with LPS 1175 Level 1 certification, the Excel cannot be fitted with an external manual release lock. Your garage must have a separate pedestrian door or integral house entrance to use the supplied internal winding handle during a mains power failure.
  • Internal and inbetween installation only: To retain certified attack resistance and insurance approval, the door must be installed to the internal face or between the brick reveal. It is not certified for external face fitting.
  • Optical safety edge: Built into the bottom rubber seal to detect obstructions and immediately reverse curtain travel, protecting vehicles, pets, and pedestrians. A flat, level opening ensures optimum sealing and reliable operation.

1. Door Curtain Colour (7 Grained Laminate Foil Options)

Choose from our selection of 7 durable, grained laminate woodgrain foil finishes. These textured Renolit laminate foils are bonded to the exterior slat surface to replicate timber and architectural window profiles, carrying an extended 10 year manufacturer finish warranty:

  • Golden Oak: Classic warm honey oak timber grain.
  • Rosewood: Traditional rich, deep reddish brown timber grain.
  • Mahogany: Dark, elegant hardwood timber grain.
  • White Woodgrain: Clean textured white woodgrain effect.
  • Black Woodgrain: Modern textured black timber grain.
  • Irish Oak: Natural light oak timber grain applied to a brown base slat colour which shows on the inside face of the door curtain.
  • Anthracite: Contemporary textured anthracite grey foil applied to a white base slat colour which shows on the inside face of the door curtain.

2. Guide Channel Colour

Select the finish for your heavy duty 90mm side guide channels. You can choose matching woodgrain foil wrapped guides, standard complementary powder coated colours (such as Mid Brown, Dark Brown, White, or Anthracite), or any custom RAL colour to match your existing brickwork or window frames.

3. Full Hood Cover Colour

Select the finish for your overhead aluminium full hood casing (front fascia and top/back lid). The full hood box is supplied in standard White (RAL 9016) or Mid Brown (RAL 8014) as standard, or can be powder coated to a complementary plain colour or any custom RAL shade to coordinate with your garage exterior and guides.

4. Transmitter Choices (2 Included as Standard)

Two remote control transmitters are included in the price as standard. You can select your first and second handset styles independently:

  • Standard Multi Channel Handsets (2, 3, or 4 button): Recommended if you have two or more electric garage doors or an automated driveway gate. Each button can be programmed independently to operate a separate door from a single key fob.
  • Bi Directional Handsets (4 button): Feature two way communication with the SeceuroSense receiver. Three dedicated buttons control one door (1 - Open, 2 - Close, 3 - Status/ASK). Pressing the Status button illuminates an LED on the handset to confirm whether the door is open, closed, or stationary without line of sight. *Please note: If you have two or more doors, you will require one Bi Directional handset per door, or select standard multi channel transmitters instead.

Handset Options

5. Motor Drive System Upgrade (SeceuroDrive or Somfy Rollixo)

Select your preferred motor drive and control system:

  • Standard SeceuroSense Plus Control: High torque SeceuroDrive motor with SeceuroSense Plus receiver unit, 7 year warranty, integrated LED courtesy light, push button controls, and optical safety edge.
  • Somfy Rollixo RTS Upgrade: Premium Somfy motor drive and Somfy Rollixo RTS control panel with Somfy Keygo remote fobs. Includes an integrated 105dB acoustic anti-tamper alarm as standard housed directly within the control box.

6. Motor Drive and Manual Override Side

Select whether you require the electric motor on the Left Hand Side or Right Hand Side (always determined when standing inside the garage looking out towards the driveway).

The motor position dictates where the power cable exits the endplate and where the internal manual emergency winding handle locates. For ease of access during a power cut, select the side closest to your power socket or secondary entrance door.

7. Door Installation Position

To comply with official LPS 1175 Level 1 security accreditation, the Excel with Full Hood must be installed internally or between the aperture. Select from the following positions (viewed from inside the garage looking out):

  • Internal Face Fit (Behind Opening): Both guide rails and the fully boxed hood fit to the internal face of the brickwork/piers. This is the standard arrangement to maximise clear drive through width and height.
  • Inbetween Installation (Between Opening): Guide rails fit directly between the structural opening, with the full hood casing positioned directly under the lintel or tucked behind it depending on lintel depth.
  • Combination Fit - Left Face / Right Inbetween: Fits behind the pier on the left hand side and within the reveal on the right hand side.
  • Combination Fit - Right Face / Left Inbetween: Fits behind the pier on the right hand side and within the reveal on the left hand side.

8. External Surface Mounted Key Switch (Optional)

A weatherproof surface mounted key switch installed externally beside the garage opening. This provides a hardwired, key operated impulse control to open and close the door from outside without carrying a handset fob. Ideal for window cleaners, gardeners, or family members entering on foot.

9. Internal Wall Mounted Wireless Switch (Optional)

A battery powered wireless wall switch that mounts inside your garage, hallway, or kitchen without running surface wiring back to the control board:

  • Standard Impulse Wireless Switch: Sends a standard impulse signal to open, stop, or close the door.
  • Bi Directional Wireless Switch: Includes status feedback LEDs on the switch plate so you can check that the garage door is safely closed from inside the house.

10. Acoustic Internal Alarm Kit (Optional for SeceuroSense)

For doors configured with the standard SeceuroSense Plus system, an optional plug-in alarm module can be added directly to the main board. If an intruder attempts to force or lever the bottom slat, the sensor immediately triggers a loud siren to shock the intruder and alert the household. (Note: The Somfy Rollixo upgrade already includes an alarm built in as standard).

Motor Drive and Handing Details

Tubular motors are factory fitted on the Left Hand side as standard (viewed from inside the garage looking out towards the driveway), with the option to select Right Hand side during configuration. The internal manual emergency override crank connects on the same side as the motor.

Fitting Position & Drive Through Dimensions

  • Behind the Opening (Internal Face Fit): Positions the 90mm guide channels and the 300mm full hood enclosure behind the brickwork piers and lintel. This setup maximises clear drive through width and height, making it ideal for larger vehicles, SUVs, and 4x4s.
  • Between the Opening (Inbetween Fit): Positions the guides and hood directly within the structural opening jambs, suitable where headroom or side pier space is limited.

*Security compliance note: To maintain official LPS 1175 Level 1 certification, this door must be fitted internally or between the opening. External face mounting invalidates the security rating and causes the motor handing and curtain orientation to be reversed.

Transmitter Options (2 Included as Standard)

Two handsets are included with every door, selectable from:

  • Large Plus 3 Channel Transmitter: Large tactile buttons complete with dedicated wall holster.
  • Black Smooth Transmitter (2 or 4 Channel): Compact modern fob with wall clip.
  • White Smooth Transmitter (4 Channel): High gloss white pocket remote with wall clip.
  • Classic 2 Channel Transmitter: Compact key ring fob with recessed buttons.

Access & Security Accessories

  • External Wireless Keypad: Weatherproof digital keypad allowing door operation via a secure PIN code without carrying a transmitter.
  • Surface Mounted Key Switch: Single pole external key switch supplied with 3 keys, hardwired directly to the control receiver for impulse key control.
  • Floor Unevenness Magnet Kit (EC726O0): Recommended where the garage threshold is uneven or crowned in the centre (common on wide double openings). The magnet deactivates the optical safety edge just before contact with the high point of the floor, preventing false obstacle signals and unwanted door reopenings while keeping the weather seal tight.

Installation Guidance: SeceuroGlide Excel Roller Garage Door with Full Hood

Installing the SeceuroGlide Excel with Full Hood requires good trade skills, accurate measuring, and careful attention to fitting tolerances. Because this model includes the fully enclosed aluminium hood casing (front fascia and top/back lid) and heavy duty 90mm guide channels, correct alignment is essential to maintain its LPS 1175 Level 1 security rating and smooth daily operation.

1. Essential Site Requirements

  • Secondary access is mandatory: To comply with LPS 1175 Level 1 attack testing, the Excel cannot have an external manual release through the curtain or casing. The garage must have a separate side door, rear door, or integral house entrance to allow access during a power failure.
  • Approved fitting positions only: To retain its official security certification, the door must be installed to the internal face (behind the opening) or between the structural reveals. It is not certified for external face mounting.
  • Level floor across the threshold: The optical safety edge built into the bottom rubber seal requires a level floor to seal and calibrate correctly. Significant floor dips can trigger false obstacle reversals.
  • Solid structural fixings: The heavy duty endplates, full hood casing, and 90mm guide channels must be anchored into solid brick, blockwork, or substantial structural timber/steel using heavy duty masonry fixings.
  • Power supply: A standard 230V 13A switched single socket located within 1 metre of the motor and control receiver unit.

2. Space and Clearance Requirements

  • Headroom for full hood casing: You need a minimum of 300mm clear vertical headroom above the opening height to accommodate the 300mm square aluminium hood box.
  • Side room for 90mm guide channels: The heavy duty Excel guides are 90mm wide on each side. For internal face fitting, you need at least 90mm of flat internal pier return on both the left and right sides.
  • Internal depth projection: Ensure there is at least 300mm of clear depth into the garage from the mounting face for the full hood box and endplates.

3. Determining the Fitting Position

All left hand (LH) and right hand (RH) references are taken from inside the garage looking out towards the driveway:

  • Internal Face Fit (Behind Opening):
    • Guides and full hood box fit to the internal face of the structural brickwork.
    • Maximises your clear drive through width and height.
    • Ordering Width = Clear brick opening width + 180mm (90mm left guide + 90mm right guide).
    • Ordering Height = Clear brick opening height (floor to lintel).
  • Inbetween Fit (Between Structural Reveals):
    • Guides fit directly between the reveal jambs, with the full hood box positioned directly underneath the lintel.
    • Clear drive through width will be reduced by 180mm (the two 90mm guides).
    • Clear drive through height will be reduced by 300mm (the depth of the full hood box).
    • Ordering Width = Reveal opening width minus 10mm fitting tolerance.
    • Ordering Height = Floor to lintel height minus 300mm box height minus 10mm fitting tolerance.
  • Combination Fit: Where one side is face fitted behind a pier and the other is fitted within the reveal. Apply 90mm guide addition on the face side and deduct 5mm tolerance on the inbetween side.

4. Step by Step Installation Process

  1. Check and prepare the opening: Measure width and height at multiple points to confirm the opening is square, and verify that the floor is level across the threshold.
  2. Assemble the hood and guides: Lay the 90mm guide channels flat on protective matting. Attach the steel endplates to the guides, then secure the front aluminium fascia and top/back hood cover lid between the endplates to form a rigid three-sided frame.
  3. Offer the complete assembly to the aperture: Lift the assembled framework against the garage opening. Use a spirit level to verify that the guides are perfectly vertical (plumb) and parallel, and that the top hood casing is completely level. Clamp the framework securely in place.
  4. Fix the guide channels and endplates: Drill through the factory pre-drilled fixing points in the 90mm guides and endplate brackets directly into the structural brickwork, securing with heavy duty masonry anchors.
  5. Install the 100mm fluted axle: Mount the fluted steel axle containing the tubular motor onto the endplate brackets inside the hood box, securing the dummy end into the safety brake.
  6. Feed and hang the curtain: Carefully feed the insulated slat curtain down into the 90mm guide channels. Attach the solid aluminium auto locking straps to the axle rings, ensuring the straps lock fully rigid when the curtain is in the down position.
  7. Align bottom slat anchors: Check that the heavy duty bottom locking slat guide anchors locate smoothly into the guide tracks when fully closed.
  8. Mount and wire the control receiver: Mount the SeceuroSense Plus (or optional Somfy Rollixo) control unit at a convenient height (approx. 1.5m from the floor) on the motor side. Complete the motor and safety edge wiring.
  9. Commission limits and safety checks: Set upper and lower travel limits using the receiver test functions, pair the remote transmitters, and test the optical safety edge for instant obstruction reversal.

5. Practical Fitting Advice

  • Keep the hood casing square: Ensure the top box is completely square and not twisted. If the mounting brickwork is slightly out of true, use packers behind the fixing brackets rather than pulling the casing out of shape with screws.
  • Allow proper fitting tolerances: For inbetween fitting, always allow a 10mm width tolerance so the guides do not pinch the curtain during cold or warm weather expansion.
  • Test the emergency override: Always test the internal manual winding handle before handing over or completing the installation to ensure smooth manual operation in a power cut.

Measuring Guide: SeceuroGlide Excel Roller Garage Door

Every SeceuroGlide Excel door is custom-manufactured to your exact dimensions down to the millimetre. Refer to the 3D dimension drawing above alongside this guide to determine your exact ordering sizes and verify your garage opening clearances.

1. Key Dimensions Explained (Refer to 3D Drawing)

  • Ordering Width (Over Guide Width): The total external width of the door unit, measured from the extreme outside edge of the left guide to the extreme outside edge of the right guide. Because the Excel uses heavy-duty 90mm guide channels on both sides, the overall width includes 180mm of guide profile (90mm + 90mm).
  • Ordering Height (Guide Height): The height measured from the finished garage floor level to the underside of the overhead endplates/casing.
  • Total Overall Height: The Ordering Height plus the 300mm endplate/box height (Total Height = Ordering Height + 300mm).
  • Clear Opening Width: The unobstructed drive-through width between the inside faces of the guide channels.
  • Clear Opening Height: The drive-through clearance beneath the bottom rubber seal when the curtain is fully open (usually around 50mm below the underside of the endplates).
  • Side Room: The flat, unobstructed internal pier space on the left and right sides of the opening. A minimum of 90mm flat return is required on each side for an internal face fit.
  • Headroom: The vertical clearance above the opening height up to the lowest ceiling obstruction, joist, or roof line. A minimum of 300mm is required for the roll casing.

2. Measuring for Internal Face Fit (Behind Opening)

This is the most common installation position, fitting the guides and roll box behind the brickwork piers to maximise drive-through width and height.

  • Step 1 - Measure the brick opening width: Measure the clear daylight brick opening width at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the largest measurement if you want the guides positioned flush behind the piers.
  • Step 2 - Calculate Ordering Width: Add 180mm (90mm left guide + 90mm right guide) to your brick opening width. (Example: 2280mm brick opening + 180mm = 2460mm Ordering Width). Verify that you have at least 90mm of internal flat pier space on both sides.
  • Step 3 - Measure the brick opening height: Measure from the finished floor to the underside of the lintel on both the left and right sides.
  • Step 4 - Calculate Ordering Height: Your Ordering Height equals the lintel height. Verify that you have at least 300mm of clear headroom above the lintel for the endplates and coil box.

3. Measuring for Inbetween Fit (Between Structural Reveals)

Used when there are no internal return piers or where headroom inside the garage is limited, positioning the guides between the jambs and the box directly underneath the lintel.

  • Step 1 - Measure the reveal width: Measure between the brick reveals at the top, middle, and bottom. Note the smallest measurement.
  • Step 2 - Calculate Ordering Width: Deduct a minimum 10mm fitting tolerance from your smallest measurement so the guides square up easily without binding. (Example: 2300mm smallest opening - 10mm tolerance = 2290mm Ordering Width). Clear drive-through width will be the Ordering Width minus 180mm.
  • Step 3 - Measure the reveal height: Measure from the finished floor to the underside of the lintel on both sides. Note the smallest measurement.
  • Step 4 - Calculate Ordering Height: Deduct the 300mm box/endplate height, then deduct a 5mm to 10mm fitting tolerance. (Example: 2400mm floor-to-lintel - 300mm box - 10mm tolerance = 2090mm Ordering Height).

4. Measuring for Combination Fit

If your garage has a return pier on one side only (e.g., face fit behind the left pier, inbetween on the right reveal):

  • Add 90mm for the face-fitted guide side and deduct 5mm fitting tolerance for the inbetween guide side.
  • Always specify which side is face-fitted when viewed from inside the garage looking out.

5. Practical Checklist Before Ordering Online

  • Check for floor level: Check across the opening with a long spirit level. If the floor slopes, order to the highest point of the floor and note that the bottom rubber seal will compress to take up small floor variations (up to 15mm).
  • Check for obstructions: Ensure there are no gas pipes, electrical meters, consumer units, or structural RSJs fouling the 90mm side-room or 300mm headroom zones.
  • Secondary access check: Confirm your garage has a separate pedestrian door or integral house door, as the security-certified Excel cannot be fitted with an external manual release.
