A safety edge is a sensor to detect any obstacles when the door is closing and stop the motor drive.

On a ‘remote control’ roller garage door a leading edge safety sensor is a legal requirement in the UK to prevent closure onto any obstacle, usually with a short or full reverse response too.

Safety edge detectors and either a rubber tube with a light beam inside, which if interrupted by the rubber being compressed, sends the signal to stop. Another safety edge uses the same sort of rubber tube, which also acts as a rubber seal, but has metal strips on the top and bottom, so again when the rubber is compressed the strips make contact and send a signal for the electric motor to stop.

Yes you can and the latest smart control systems using Somfy mean the smart control is a very small price uplift over normal remote control.

Many people now use their smartphone for controlling everything around the house whether that be lights, Sonos music, electric blinds, the heating, and so on. So being able to open and close your garage door makes perfect sense as you then do not need a remote handset for control.

Simple apps on a phone will open and close the door and also provide other functions too if you want to take it further.

Somfy are world leaders in electric motors, controls and now smart apps and hardware to enable. The prices are exceptionally good and the products are truly plug and play and simple to set up in your home… This is specific to electric roller garage doors. MyQ is another smart app system used with the latest Carteck electric garage door openers for sectional doors.
