GDO Classic Dorridge Up and Over Garage Door
Traditional Georgian style with modern steel construction
The GDO Classic Dorridge is a pressed steel up and over garage door in a classic Georgian panelled design. The evenly proportioned raised panels create a timeless, elegant look that suits a huge range of UK homes, from traditional semis and detached houses to more modern developments that still favour a classic front elevation. Manufactured in the UK from galvanised steel and available in 32 factory finished colours, it combines traditional styling with the strength, security and low maintenance benefits of a modern steel door.
Key features and benefits
Classic Georgian panelled design
The Dorridge design uses a grid of pressed rectangular panels to create a traditional Georgian appearance. This style works particularly well where you want your garage door to echo the look of classic panelled front doors or period window layouts, helping the garage frontage blend more harmoniously with the rest of the property.
32 factory finished colour options
The door is pre-finished in White (RAL 9016) on both sides as standard, providing a clean, neutral look that suits most homes. You can also choose from Black (RAL 9005), Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) and a further wide range of optional factory finished colours for a small additional charge. This broad palette makes it easy to match or contrast with your windows, entrance door and other external features without any on-site painting.
Canopy or retractable operating gear
The GDO Classic Dorridge can be supplied with either canopy or retractable operating gear. Canopy gear is ideal for straightforward manual operation, giving maximum drive-through width and forming a partial canopy outside the garage when open. Retractable gear runs on horizontal tracks inside the garage and is the correct choice if you intend to automate the door with an electric operator, allowing for smooth, motorised opening and closing.
Optional factory fitted steel sub frame
This door is available without a steel sub frame for installation to an existing timber frame, or with a factory fitted steel sub frame for direct fixing to your structural opening. All up and over doors must be fitted to a sub frame and cannot be installed without one. For the best overall installation, appearance and long-term reliability, we strongly recommend the factory fitted steel frame. With this option, the door, frame and operating gear are delivered as one pre-assembled unit, ready to offer into the opening and fix securely.
4 point locking upgrade (manual doors only)
For increased security on manually operated doors, a 4 point internal locking system is available as an upgrade. This replaces the standard 2 point locking and secures the door at four separate points, making it significantly harder to force open. The 4 point locking option is particularly worthwhile if your garage stores valuable items such as bikes, tools or garden machinery.
Important ordering and sizing information
As with all standard size up and over doors, the ordering sizes for the GDO Classic Dorridge refer to the internal opening size of the sub frame (the clear daylight opening between the inside faces of the frame), not the overall external dimensions of the door and frame combined. When you are replacing a door and fitting between brickwork, you must always allow for the additional width and height of either the timber or steel sub frame, plus a small fitting tolerance, to calculate the final overall size.
If you choose the factory fitted steel sub frame, the overall external size will be larger than the ordering size shown, because the ordering size represents the clear opening inside the frame only. Always refer to the “Measure” tab for detailed guidance or contact us if you are unsure how to confirm the correct ordering sizes for your opening.
The GDO up and over garage doors are available in a range of standard and purpose made sizes and the first option to decide upon is whether to use canopy or retractable operating gear.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages and generally you have canopy gear is you only every want a manual door and retractable if you want to add an electric operator to the door.

Retractable mechanism with steel frame |
The Canopy gear has a preassembled torsion spring above the door panel which lifts the door panel via a cable either side and once opened the door panel sticks out about a third and hence the name ‘canopy’
Retractable operating gear has arms either side lifting the door panel both assisted by tension springs. The motion of the retractable door is far more direct which means it does swing out more but ends up fully retracted inside the garage on the horizontal rails the door slides along. Fitting an electric operator to a retractable garage door is very easy indeed as long as you have the headroom and length to take the operator and its boom.
Colour Finish
Choose from 18 standard powdercoat finished colours with the standard white at no extra charge (RAL9016)
Door panel is finished inside and out in the same colour chosen

Handle Option
We offer a standard black handle with euro profile cylinder locking or the option of no handle at all and no hole drilled either when you are putting an electric operator onto the door.
(Most other up and over door brands are not able to offer the door without the handle hole drilled)
Factory Fitted Steel Sub Frame
This is an option we recommend as you receive a door with the frame already fitted and ready to fit into the garage aperture. The frame is a box section steel finished in either white or any of the other colours offered.
It is a 50mm wide frame all round the door on all the steel up and over doors so for the OVERALL dimensions simply add 100 mm to the ordering width and 50mm to the ordering height.
4 point locking - FOR MANUAL DOORS ONLY
We offer the option to have 4 points of internal locking rather than the standard 2 point locking making the door considerably harder to break into by force.

GDO Pull Handles S/S Care and Maintenance
GDO garage doors come with pull handles to the front panel as standard.
The pull handles are made using grade 304 Stainless steel for use externally and internally in heavily sanitised areas such as kitchens and washrooms.
Like all steel, failure to keep the item clean can cause surface blemishes and what looks like a major product failure and rusting.
You will often find marks appearing in the winter when the roads have been gritted, salt on the surface are all steel products arch enemy.
If your pull bars develop small blemished areas during December, January and February in particular then you should wash them off using cold water and washing up liquid, you can use a cream cleaner like CIF rubbed lightly to remove the blemishes.
If you have them appear it means you have salt on the surface and need to increase the frequency of the door washdown.
Please remember all stainless steel can blemish even knives and forks in a dishwasher because salt is used as a scrubbing agent, wiping blemishes off with a cloth is standard practice and you should treat the door bars the same, clean and wipe regularly.
If you live close to the sea or estuary you should apply a light oil after washing once a month to keep the item clean and fresh.
