Garador Horizon (White) Steel Up and Over Garage Door
The Garador Horizon in White delivers a clean, modern look that suits everything from contemporary new builds to traditional brickwork. Its crisp horizontal styling gives the door a wider, more architectural feel, while the steel construction keeps the surface looking smart and consistent over time. This is a great choice if you want a freshly finished frontage without an overly busy design.
Door style and construction
As a steel up and over garage door, this model lifts as a single panel and then pivots overhead, making it a straightforward, proven choice for everyday use. The Horizon design is especially popular where you want the garage door to complement modern window lines, fascias and horizontal cladding while staying understated.
Choose your operating gear
This door can be specified with different operating gear to suit how you use the garage and whether you are considering automation.
Canopy gear (manual friendly, simple overhead opening)
- The canopy gear allows the door to travel in vertical tracks and is counterbalanced by an overhead torsion spring.
- In the open position, the door projects approximately one third of the door height, forming a canopy.
- Single canopy doors come complete with:
- 2 point locking to help prevent unauthorised entry.
- Anti drop device to reduce the risk of the door crashing down in the event of a spring or cable failure.
- Design handle for safer day to day operation.
- Zinc coated torsion spring for durability and a clean finished look.
- Cast alloy drum.
Retractable gear (ideal for smooth travel and automation)
- Single retractable doors open along the horizontal tracks inside the garage and travel back into the garage space when opened.
- Retractable garage doors are ideal for automation.
- The retractable gear allows the door to retract inside the garage when open by means of horizontal overhead tracks supported by wall or ceiling mounted suspension brackets. This gear is available as an option for single doors and comes as standard with double garage doors.
- Single retractable doors come complete with:
- Design handle for safe door operation.
- Secure parking position to help prevent uncontrolled closing.
- Secure locking to help prevent forced entry.
- Multiple spring cassette and pivot arm cover providing trap protection to reduce the risk of injuries.
Optional Retractable Plus gear (for narrower openings)
- Retractable Plus gear is an optional extra for garages that have narrow openings. It has specially designed lifting arms and bottom spring brackets to allow for maximum use of the clear passage.
- Available on 1931mm, 1981mm and 2136mm high doors and up to 2284mm wide.
- Retractable Plus gear is not available for doors over 7 feet 6 inches wide.
Clearances and space considerations
Drive through clearance differs depending on the operating gear, so it is worth selecting based on how tight your opening is and what you regularly drive in and out.
Canopy gear nominal drive through clearance
- 40mm less than the opening width.
- 130mm less than the opening height.
Retractable gear nominal drive through clearance
- Single doors: 105mm less than the opening width and 110mm less than the opening height.
- Double doors: 140mm less than the opening height.
Also consider internal and external space:
- Canopy gear leaves part of the door projecting outside when open.
- Retractable gear retracts fully into the garage when open, but uses overhead tracks inside the garage.
Sizes, made to measure and delivery
- This door is offered with 8 standard widths for the canopy mechanism and 11 standard widths for the retractable operating gear up to a maximum of 10 feet (3048mm) wide.
- 6 different standard heights are offered.
- This door model is also offered as a made to measure door in our online shop if required.
All single size Garador up and over doors are delivered factory preassembled for the easiest on site installation, especially when ordered with the optional steel sub frame.
Factory Fitted Steel Fixing Frame – The Best All‑Round Option
For the best installation, security and long‑term performance, the factory fitted Garador steel fixing frame is strongly recommended over a timber sub frame. Because it is precision‑made to suit the door, it gives the tightest tolerances around the panel edges, which means a faster, cleaner and more accurate fit. The rigid steel frame resists twisting and warping, keeps the locking points perfectly aligned and allows the security upgrades to work at their full potential. It also removes the need to build and paint a timber frame, reducing fitting time and ongoing maintenance.
If you want the neatest finish, the smoothest operation and the highest practical level of security from your new door, choosing the steel sub frame is the best all‑round option.

Choose Handle Option
You can tailor the look of your door with a choice of handles: a durable black nylon handle or a high‑quality diecast metal handle in white, brass or chrome effect.
This small detail helps the door blend with your front door, windows or other hardware for a more coordinated finish.

Extra Security Locking – Best with Steel Frame
For manually operated doors you can upgrade to a 4‑point locking rod system for a serious boost in security and resistance to forced entry.
When this is combined with the factory‑made steel sub frame, the locking rods engage directly into the steel closing lip and reinforcing plates, making it far harder for an intruder to reach or manipulate the internal locking catches.
With a positive locking latch in each corner of the door, the panel is held firmly into the steel frame and is far better protected against prising and levering than with a basic timber surround.
For retractable doors, the optional electrically operated “De Latch Security Locking” system works in tandem with the manual locking and the remote‑control operator to give 3‑point locking at the push of a button.
This upgrade makes the most sense on a door fitted to a steel sub frame, where the stronger, more precise frame allows the multiple locking points to engage cleanly time after time. Please note: the De Latch Security Locking system is not suitable for canopy doors.
Emergency External Release
If the garage has no other way in, an emergency external release is essential.
This simple system connects to the operator tow arm inside the garage and lets you disconnect it from outside if there is a power cut, so you can still open the door manually and regain access.
Remote Control Electric Operator
The Garamatic 9 electric operator is an ideal partner for this door.
Supplied with two hand transmitters, it offers reliable, secure and very smooth automatic operation, with virtually no maintenance required.
A built‑in manual override allows you to operate the door in a power failure, and the integral LED lighting strip (10 LEDs) provides bright, low‑energy illumination every time you use the door.
The included short K‑boom suits doors up to 2500 mm high, making this operator a great all‑round choice for most standard garages.

Installing a Garador steel up and over garage door is a relatively simple job when the door is supplied with the matching factory-made steel box section sub frame. In most cases this combination gives you the quickest, neatest and most reliable way to get the door in and working properly. The steel box frame is manufactured square and already matched to the door panel and lifting gear, so you are not fighting with twists, shims or odd gaps like you often are with a site-built timber frame. Many Garador up and over doors are delivered already hung in this frame, with the gear set up at the factory, which means you are lifting one complete unit into the opening instead of building it up piece by piece. Because the frame and door are designed to work together, the clearances around the edges are tighter and more consistent, which helps with weather sealing, security and long‑term smooth running compared with most timber frames. On canopy gear in particular, using the steel frame keeps the installation very straightforward – you are mainly concerned with getting the frame level and square, fixing it off and then doing a final check and adjustment. Start by checking that the structural opening is suitable for a standard steel-framed Garador door: measure width and height, check everything is reasonably square, and make sure the brick or concrete reveals are sound enough to take fixings. Decide whether you are fitting the frame behind the brickwork or between the reveals, as this affects what you see from the outside and how much tolerance you have for packing and sealing. Confirm that you have the correct headroom for the chosen canopy or retractable gear and for any future electric operator, and refer to the current fitting instructions for the specific model if you are unsure. Lift the door and frame assembly into the opening and support it so the head and both uprights are level, plumb and centred, then check the diagonals to make sure the frame is truly square. Fix through the prepared holes or brackets in the steel frame using suitable frame fixings into the surrounding masonry, tightening them in stages and rechecking alignment as you go. When the frame is firmly secured and the door moves freely without rubbing or binding, remove any transit brackets, screws or packing used to lock the gear for transport, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Fit the external handle set and locking bars, then adjust so the latches engage properly in the frame keeps and the door closes down evenly onto the frame on all sides. Operate the door several times to make sure it moves smoothly and feels balanced. If it does not stay put in a half‑open position or feels too heavy, adjust the springs and cables only as described in the fitting instructions. Look at the gaps between the door and frame; they should be even all round. Fit or tweak any seals to cut down on draughts and water ingress where required. Finally, check the clear drive‑through height and width to confirm vehicles can enter comfortably and that none of the lifting gear fouls the opening. With a timber sub frame you first have to build and fix the frame, then spend time getting it braced, square and solid before you even start hanging the door and setting up the gear. The purpose‑made steel frame largely removes that stage because it is already straight and correctly sized. The steel frame is supplied pre-finished, generally works out more economical than a good quality timber frame, and does not need priming and painting on all faces before you can install it, which saves both labour and ongoing maintenance. Because the door and its steel frame have been designed and tested as a set, using the factory frame helps ensure the door operates as it should in terms of safety, ease of use and durability, and it also gives a good base if you later add an automatic operator.Installing a Garador Steel Up and Over Garage Door
