GDO Classic Dorridge Purpose Made Up and Over Garage Door

Georgian panelled elegance in a made to measure steel door

The GDO Classic Dorridge purpose made up and over garage door brings a touch of traditional elegance to your garage opening. The design features a series of symmetrically arranged rectangular panels pressed into the steel face, replicating the look of a classic Georgian panelled door. Each panel is deeply recessed with raised borders, creating a structured and architectural appearance that is altogether different from ribbed garage door designs.

This is a door that naturally suits older and period style properties, but it also works exceptionally well on newer homes where the builder has used traditional design cues such as panelled front doors, sash style windows or decorative brickwork. The formal panel layout gives the frontage a polished, considered look that elevates the overall kerb appeal of the property.

Manufactured in the UK from galvanised steel, the Dorridge is finished on both sides in your chosen colour and built to last with minimal upkeep.

Key features and benefits

Purpose made for non standard garages

The Dorridge is manufactured to your exact opening dimensions, so there is no need to settle for a standard size that leaves gaps or requires unsightly infill panels. A purpose made door maximises your available drive through space and gives a cleaner, more professional finished appearance in the opening.

Traditional Georgian panelled design

The symmetrical panel layout is pressed into a single steel panel, giving you the refined look of a Georgian door without the weight, maintenance or cost associated with a timber equivalent. The raised borders and recessed centres of each panel catch light and shadow beautifully, adding depth and character to the frontage.

32 factory finished colours

White (RAL9016), Black (RAL9005) and Anthracite Grey (RAL7016) are offered as standard colours. A further 29 factory finished colours are available for a small additional charge, giving you 32 choices in total. Popular selections for the Dorridge design include heritage greens, deep blues and neutral creams, which complement the period styling beautifully.

Canopy or retractable gear

Canopy gear provides spring assisted manual operation and is well suited to everyday use. Retractable gear is the recommended choice if you plan to automate the door. With retractable gear, the panel slides fully into the garage on horizontal tracks, making it compatible with electric operators and leaving the opening completely clear.

Optional factory fitted steel sub frame

Choose the steel sub frame option for the simplest and neatest installation. The door, frame and operating mechanism are delivered together as a single pre assembled unit, colour matched throughout. This removes the need for a separate timber frame and makes the fitting process considerably quicker and easier.

Purpose made size ranges

The available purpose made size ranges for this model are:

Minimum Width (Canopy Doors) 1829mm Maximum Width (Canopy Doors) 2744mm

Minimum Height (Canopy Doors) 1905mm Maximum Height (Canopy Doors) 2134mm

Minimum Width (Retractable Doors) 1829mm Maximum Width (Retractable Doors) 4267mm

Minimum Height (Retractable Doors) 1905mm Maximum Height (Retractable Doors) 2134mm

The GDO up and over garage doors are available in a range of standard and purpose made sizes and the first option to decide upon is whether to use canopy or retractable operating gear.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages and generally you have canopy gear is you only every want a manual door and retractable if you want to add an electric operator to the door.

Retractable up and over door
Retractable mechanism with steel frame

The Canopy gear has a preassembled torsion spring above the door panel which lifts the door panel via a cable either side and once opened the door panel sticks out about a third and hence the name ‘canopy’

Retractable operating gear has arms either side lifting the door panel both assisted by tension springs. The motion of the retractable door is far more direct which means it does swing out more but ends up fully retracted inside the garage on the horizontal rails the door slides along. Fitting an electric operator to a retractable garage door is very easy indeed as long as you have the headroom and length to take the operator and its boom.

Colour Finish
Choose from 34 standard powdercoat finished colours with the standard white at no extra charge (RAL9016)
Door panel is finished inside and out in the same colour chosen

GDO Handle option

Handle Option
We offer a standard black handle with euro profile cylinder locking or the option of no handle at all and no hole drilled either when you are putting an electric operator onto the door.
(Most other up and over door brands are not able to offer the door without the handle hole drilled)

Factory Fitted Steel Sub Frame
This is an option we recommend as you receive a door with the frame already fitted and ready to fit into the garage aperture. The frame is a box section steel finished in either white or any of the other colours offered.
It is a 50mm wide frame all round the door on all the steel up and over doors so for the OVERALL dimensions simply add 100 mm to the ordering width and 50mm to the ordering height.

4 point locking - FOR MANUAL DOORS ONLY
We offer the option to have 4 points of internal locking rather than the standard 2 point locking making the door considerably harder to break into by force.

GDO Pull Handles S/S Care and Maintenance
GDO garage doors come with pull handles to the front panel as standard.
The pull handles are made using grade 304 Stainless steel for use externally and internally in heavily sanitised areas such as kitchens and washrooms.
Like all steel, failure to keep the item clean can cause surface blemishes and what looks like a major product failure and rusting.
You will often find marks appearing in the winter when the roads have been gritted, salt on the surface are all steel products arch enemy.
If your pull bars develop small blemished areas during December, January and February in particular then you should wash them off using cold water and washing up liquid, you can use a cream cleaner like CIF rubbed lightly to remove the blemishes.
If you have them appear it means you have salt on the surface and need to increase the frequency of the door washdown.
Please remember all stainless steel can blemish even knives and forks in a dishwasher because salt is used as a scrubbing agent, wiping blemishes off with a cloth is standard practice and you should treat the door bars the same, clean and wipe regularly.
If you live close to the sea or estuary you should apply a light oil after washing once a month to keep the item clean and fresh.
