How ordering sizes are defined depends on whether you are buying an engineered to order door from the GDO range or a standard door from Garador or Hörmann.
1. GDO Made to Order Range: Overall Dimensions (in mm)
For all GDO up and over doors, the ordering size refers to the Overall Frame Width and Height in millimetres (the total outer edge of the frame). This eliminates guesswork:
- Fitting in between: Measure your smallest brick opening and deduct a 10 to 15mm fitting tolerance to find your GDO order size.
- Fitting behind: Order to the overall outer frame size that fits across your internal piers and lintel.
2. Garador and Hörmann: Nominal / Internal Frame Size
For standard Garador and Hörmann doors, ordering sizes refer to the internal frame opening (traditionally in imperial feet and inches, such as 7'0" × 7'0" or 2134mm × 2134mm). The subframe is an optional add on and is not included in this base dimension:
- Reusing a timber frame: The ordering size matches the clear inside opening between your existing timber posts.
- Adding a factory steel frame: You must add the frame profile (typically 60mm to 75mm per side and head) to the ordering size to calculate your Overall Frame Dimension when fitting between brickwork.
Summary Rule of Thumb: When ordering GDO, provide the complete outer frame size in millimetres. When ordering Garador or Hörmann, provide the internal frame opening reference size and check the overall dimensions if fitting between structural brickwork.
