GDO Highworth Up and Over Garage Door
Clean, contemporary panel styling
The GDO Highworth up and over garage door offers a simple, modern look created by a series of wider, evenly spaced pressed details rather than traditional close boarding. The combination of vertical and horizontal elements gives the door a subtle, contemporary character that looks smart on a wide range of UK homes, particularly newer properties and refurbishments aiming for a cleaner front elevation. Manufactured in the UK from galvanised steel and supplied in popular standard single garage sizes, it delivers strength, reliability and low maintenance performance for everyday use.
Key features and benefits
Modern pressed panel design
Instead of narrow ribs, the Highworth uses broader, well defined pressed lines to break up the surface of the panel. This gives a more up to date appearance while still remaining understated, so the door complements rather than dominates the front of your property.
32 factory finished colour options
The door is pre-finished in White (RAL 9016) as standard, with Black (RAL 9005), Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) and a further range of optional factory finished colours available for a small additional charge. With a total palette of 32 colours across the GDO range, you can easily match or contrast the door with your windows, front door and other exterior features without needing to paint it on site.
Standard UK single sizes
The GDO Highworth is available in many of the most common single garage opening sizes used in the UK. This makes it a straightforward, cost effective replacement for an existing up and over door, usually with minimal or no alteration required to the structural opening.
Canopy or retractable operating gear
You can choose the operating mechanism that best suits how you plan to use the door. Canopy gear is ideal for simple manual operation, providing maximum drive-through width and allowing the door to form a canopy outside the garage when open. Retractable gear runs on horizontal tracks inside the garage and is the correct choice if you intend to automate the door with an electric operator, offering smooth, motorised opening and closing.
Optional factory fitted steel sub frame
The Highworth can be supplied either for fitting to an existing timber sub frame or with a factory fitted steel sub frame. All up and over doors must be installed to a suitable frame and cannot be fitted without one. For the best overall installation, we strongly recommend the factory fitted steel frame, where the door, frame and operating gear are delivered as one pre-assembled unit ready to offer into your structural opening. This makes fitting quicker and more accurate and generally improves both the finished appearance and long term performance.
4 point locking upgrade (manual doors only)
On manually operated doors, a 4 point internal locking upgrade is available. This replaces the standard 2 point locking and secures the door at four separate points, significantly increasing resistance to forced entry. This upgrade is particularly recommended if your garage is used to store high value items such as cycles, tools or garden equipment.
Important ordering and sizing information
Ordering sizes for the GDO Highworth refer to the internal daylight opening between the inside faces of the sub frame legs and the underside of the frame head, not the overall external size including the frame. When you select a steel factory fitted sub frame, the overall width and height of the door and frame combined will be larger than the ordering size shown.
Before ordering, always check the dimensions and measuring advice in the “Measure” tab and allow for the extra frame sizes and fitting tolerances required to suit your brickwork, blockwork or stone opening. If you are unsure, please contact us with your measurements and we can confirm the correct ordering size for your new door.
The GDO up and over garage doors are available in a range of standard and purpose made sizes and the first option to decide upon is whether to use canopy or retractable operating gear.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages and generally you have canopy gear is you only every want a manual door and retractable if you want to add an electric operator to the door.

The Canopy gear has a preassembled torsion spring above the door panel which lifts the door panel via a cable either side and once opened the door panel sticks out about a third and hence the name ‘canopy’
Retractable operating gear has arms either side lifting the door panel both assisted by tension springs. The motion of the retractable door is far more direct which means it does swing out more but ends up fully retracted inside the garage on the horizontal rails the door slides along. Fitting an electric operator to a retractable garage door is very easy indeed as long as you have the headroom and length to take the operator and its boom.
Colour Finish
Choose from 18 standard powdercoat finished colours with the standard white at no extra charge (RAL9016)
Door panel is finished inside and out in the same colour chosen

Handle Option
We offer a standard black handle with euro profile cylinder locking or the option of no handle at all and no hole drilled either when you are putting an electric operator onto the door.
(Most other up and over door brands are not able to offer the door without the handle hole drilled)
Factory Fitted Steel Sub Frame
This is an option we recommend as you receive a door with the frame already fitted and ready to fit into the garage aperture. The frame is a box section steel finished in either white or any of the other colours offered.
It is a 50mm wide frame all round the door on all the steel up and over doors so for the OVERALL dimensions simply add 100 mm to the ordering width and 50mm to the ordering height.
4 point locking
We offer the option to have 4 points of internal locking rather than the standard 2 point locking making the door considerably harder to break into by force.
4 point locking - FOR MANUAL DOORS ONLY
We offer the option to have 4 points of internal locking rather than the standard 2 point locking making the door considerably harder to break into by force.
