We keep the 2601 Elegance in the four most popular UK standard imperial opening sizes. All dimensions refer to the internal opening size of the frame (daylight opening width x height):

Operating Mechanism: Canopy vs Retractable

Both gearing types are available across all stock sizes, and choosing the right one comes down to how you plan to use and operate the door:

• Canopy Gear: The classic manual gear for UK garages. The lifting torsion spring sits above the door leaf, and vertical tracks guide the panel upwards. When fully open, about one third of the door leaf protrudes outside the opening to form a canopy. This setup leaves your garage ceiling and walls completely clear of horizontal tracks, making it ideal when you need unobstructed internal storage space. Canopy doors are primarily designed for manual hand operation.
• Retractable Gear: Uses heavy-duty side-mounted coil springs and horizontal overhead tracks running back into the garage. The entire door leaf retracts fully inside the building when open, leaving no overhang outside. Retractable gearing is required if you plan to automate the door with an electric boom operator such as a Hormann Promatic or Supramatic, and it provides exceptionally smooth, balanced manual operation.

Why We Always Recommend the Factory Steel Sub Frame

Up and over garage doors require a fixing sub frame to mount to the brickwork opening. While you can fit to an existing treated timber frame, ordering your door with the factory steel box section sub frame gives a vastly better final result for several practical reasons:

• No Timber to Rot or Repaint: The steel sub frame is galvanised and factory powder-coated to match the Anthracite door panel, giving a sharp, low-maintenance finish that will not twist, swell, or warp over time.
• Factory Pre-Assembled Gearing: When ordered with the steel frame, the springs, side arms, and running gear come pre-mounted to the frame from the factory. This cuts installation time in half and guarantees square alignment right out of the box.
• Greater Security: The rigid steel-to-steel fit between the door leaf and the frame leaves minimal pry gaps, significantly reducing leverage points for forced entry compared to a timber frame.

*The steel sub frame adds 60mm or 75mm per side and 60mm across the head (depending on gear type). Always check your overall brick-to-brick structural opening before ordering.

Security and Build Quality

Hormann Series 2000 doors are engineered around a rigid, fully galvanised steel box-section chassis with welded reinforcements at all structural stress points:

• Rotary Catch Locking: Hormann's unique mechanical rotary latches firmly clamp the corners of the door leaf into the frame. This holds the bottom corners far more securely against crowbar attack than standard budget slide bolts.
• Rivet-Free Front Face: The wide vertical ribs are formed into a continuous sheet without visible rivets on the exterior, giving a clean finish that resists corrosion traps.
• Euro Profile Cylinder: Supplied with a secure euro-cylinder lock, an exterior black nylon handle, and two keys. Can be upgraded with an optional top-locking latch kit for 4-point security.
• Anti-Drop Spring System: Multiple enclosed springs prevent the door leaf from dropping suddenly in the unlikely event of a single spring failure.

Practical Installation Advice

The 2601 Elegance can be installed in one of two positions relative to your opening:

• Between the Reveal (In-between fitting): The door and sub frame sit directly between the brick jambs. This position is necessary if your garage has no internal piers or headroom, but remember that the frame legs take up roughly 120mm to 150mm of total drive-through width.
• Behind the Reveal (Internal face fitting): The frame fits to the inside face of the brick piers. This is always the preferred method if you have at least 75mm of side room and 75mm of lintel headroom inside, as it preserves 100% of your clear drive-through width and height.

*A level, solid concrete floor across the garage threshold is recommended to ensure the rubber bottom seal makes full contact and keeps driven leaves and rain out.

Factory Fitted Steel Fixing Frame

The steel sub frame offered as an option is also finished in the same white finish as the door and saves a lot of time and money over a timber sub frame option whilst also offering tighter tolerances around the edges of the door panel.

We recommend the steel sub frame for all up and over garage doors.

We offer 2 sizes for the steel sub frame, a 60mm wide frame which can only be used on the canopy operating mechanism and a 75mm wide frame which is offered on the canopy or retractable gear mechanism. The retractable operating gear can only have the 75mm frame option.

Choose Handle Option
Choose from a selection of high quality round handles to include euro cylinder security locking with a 2 point internal locking rod system as standard.

A choice of a standard nylon black handle or various aluminium and stainless steel options.

Extra Security Locking
Upgrade to a 4 point locking rod system for the best security and resistance to force entry. The Hormann locking rod system combined with a steel sub frame utilises the steel closing lip along with strategically placed steel plates to prevent easy access to the internal locking catches for the door.

With each locking latch in each corner this is a hard door to break into.

If you decide to order the remote control operator then there is no need to opt for a 4 point locking system as the operator holds the top of the door but the ‘De Latch Security Locking’ is a great device to utilise the manual locking for the retractable gear option in conjunction with the remote control operator by connecting with a mechanical latching system. It will provide a 3 point locking system when added to your door.

If you do not opt for the De Latch system you will have to de commission the manual locking system on the door. For a canopy door the de latch mechanism is not possible with the electric operator, only for the retractable mechanism.

Emergency External Release
This is a cable attachment system internally for providing an external method of disconnecting the remote control operator towing arm for the garage door in the event of a power failure and when you do not have another way of accessing the garage.

Retractable PLUS gear
Only an option if you choose the retractable mechanism on the door. This is a clever cranked arm system to provide a wider drive through width when the door is open by raising the height of the lifting arms either side of the door. It will only provide a wider drive through width for most cars and not 4x4 vehicles. Please check for exact dimensions or ask for clarification depending on the door height chosen.

Remote Control Electric Operator
We offer the very best options for the door models within our online shop and with the Hormann up and over doors it is either the Promatic or Supramatic models with the Supramatic having more power and more options and accessories available.

Either model is a Bi Secur system meaning the very latest in 2 way communication and also encrypted remote signalling for the best security possible.

Either operator comes complete with 2 hand held transmitters as standard and an internal manual release mechanism. Both operators also offer a courtesy light integrated into the motor head for light when the door is operated and a power off after a timed period.

Fittings and Locking

Standard Handle Set and Locking Mechanism
Supplied as standard with an ergonomic round black nylon handle on the exterior and a turn disc latch release on the interior. The lock uses a standard euro profile half cylinder (supplied with 2 keys) and operates a 2 point mechanical locking system with spring loaded side rotary latches that bite into the steel frame. An optional 4 point locking upgrade kit is also available to add top latching points for maximum mechanical resistance against pry bar attack.

*Optional diecast handle upgrades in cast aluminium, brushed chrome, brass, and stainless steel finishes are available to match existing front door ironmongery.

Electric Automation Options

The Hormann ProMatic and Hormann SupraMatic remote control operators are designed specifically to integrate seamlessly with Series 2000 doors. Both models feature automatic mechanical locking in the boom rail, automatic obstacle safety cut out, soft start and soft stop to reduce wear on mechanical springs, and energy saving LED courtesy lighting.

All Hormann operators come supplied with 2 micro hand transmitters as standard, operating on encrypted 868 MHz BiSecur radio frequency to protect against signal grabbing and code cloning.

Important Gearing Note for Automation:
Retractable geared doors connect directly to an electric operator towing arm with no additional brackets needed. If you choose a canopy geared door and wish to automate it, an optional canopy bow arm converter must be fitted to the top of the door leaf. For regular electric operation, we always recommend ordering retractable gear.

De-Latch Security Locking Kit
When an electric operator is fitted to an up and over door, the operator boom holds the door closed at the top centre, but the standard mechanical bottom rotary catches are disengaged. Adding a genuine Hormann mechanical de-latch kit links the bottom rotary latches directly to the motor towing arm. When the motor starts, it mechanically pulls and releases the side latches before lifting the door, giving you the dual benefit of automated convenience and physical multi point frame locking.

External Emergency Release Kit
If your garage does not have a separate pedestrian side door or internal house entrance, an external emergency release device is essential. This allows you to mechanically disengage the electric operator from the outside using a key in the event of a mains power failure, ensuring you are never locked out.

Standard Running Gear & Construction

• Quiet Running Components: Abrasion resistant nylon rollers and maintenance free synthetic bushes in all pivot bearing points ensure quiet, fluid door travel without metal-on-metal screeching.
• Enclosed Multi-Spring Counterbalance: Heavy duty spring packs with multiple wound springs prevent panel drop in the unlikely event of a single spring break.
• Integrated Weatherseal: Flexible synthetic rubber bottom weatherstrip bridges uneven floors and prevents windblown debris entering the garage.

Delivery and On-Site Handling

Single up and over doors are delivered fully assembled as a complete rigid unit. When ordered with the matching factory steel sub frame, the gear arms, springs, and tracks are pre-mounted directly to the frame. The handle and lock furniture pack is securely banded to the rear bracing of the door leaf ready for final on-site assembly.

Full installation details are provided with the door as well as various components for installing the optional steel fixing frame if ordered. Steel brackets and screws are provided for the fixing frame or timber screws for a timber fixing frame installation - you will only need fixings for installing the steel brackets to your structural opening. All Hormann garage doors are delivered with your chosen operating mechanism factory installed to the door panel and the only item to fix after installing the door is the handle set supplied seperately with the door. The spring is already tensioned on the canopy doors and released by removing a transit screw once the door is installed.

Warranty

Hörmann products are manufactured to the highest quality standards and leave our factory only after rigorous quality testing. However, if you should have grounds for complaint, this section tells you what our door warranty offers, and how to go about making your claim.

In the unlikely event of a warranty claim becoming necessary, please contact the dealer or distributor who originally supplied your garage door. Your dealer should then supply details of the claim, together with a copy of the warranty card provided with the door and proof of purchase to the Product Services Department at Hörmann (UK) Ltd. To enable your claim under warranty to be processed as quickly as possible, you should provide the following details:

1 Your name, address and telephone number

2 Original invoice with date of purchase

3 Product description/door type and product number

4 Description of defect

An assessment of the claim will then be made. This may require Hörmann to inspect the product in-situ. In the event that there is no legitimate warranty claim under the terms specified herein, you may be liable for the costs of the inspection visit. We strongly recommend that you take note of the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door, and on the page opposite, and that you follow these instructions throughout.

Hörmann (UK) Ltd Garage Door Warranty

Warranty Period The purchaser is granted a warranty covering the safe and reliable function of the Hörmann garage door for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase. A 5 year warranty applies to springs, wire cables, track rollers, hinges and guide rollers. The warranty period for replacement parts is 6 months or to the end of the current warranty period, whichever is longer. In the case of foilcoated timber-effect, a warranty of 5 years is granted, for timber and GRP doors a warranty of 2 years is granted on the door panels alone under the terms and conditions specified herein. The door mechanism and steel frame (if applicable) is covered by the 10 year warranty period.

Requirements 

Warranty claims are only applicable in the country where the garage door was purchased. The product must have been purchased through our authorised distribution channels. The warranty only covers damage to the contract object. The fully completed warranty card together with the receipt of purchase correspondingly dated substantiates your right to claim under the warranty.

Performance 

During the warranty period we undertake to rectify any and all defects to the Hörmann product which can be proved to be attributed to a material or manufacturing fault. We pledge at our discretion either to exchange the defective merchandise for faultless merchandise, repair it or allow a reduction in price. We do not accept costs for dismantling and installation nor for carriage.

Replaced parts become our property.

The warranty does not cover damage caused through:

• normal wear and tear

• improper installation

• negligent care and maintenance

• improper initial and subsequent operation

• negligent or wanton destruction

• external influences such as fire, water, salts, alkaline solutions, acids, abnormal environmental influences

• mechanical damage through improper transport and fitting

• priming and other surface protection treatments

• incorrect or too late applied surface protection treatments

• repair by non-qualified persons

• using non-Hörmann parts without the approval of the manufacturer

• removal of the product number or making it unidentifiable

Electric Operator Warranty

A separate 5 year warranty is granted on our electric operators. This includes operator mechanics, motor and motor control systems. A 2 year warranty is granted on radio equipment, accessories and system controls. There is no warranty on consumables (e.g. fuses, batteries, bulbs etc.).

User Information/Care

Finish - Steel Doors

The coating process applied to the door and chassis is environmentally friendly. Minor scratches or marks are not covered under the conditions of our warranty and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the panel. Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalines, and salts, etc. should be cleaned from the door immediately; failure to do so will result in deterioration of the finish, which will not be covered under our warranty. Should deterioration of the finish start to occur you will need to repaint your door immediately. Prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry. Then treat with solvent based 2 pack epoxy wash primer and a normal commercial paint (cellulose paint must not be used). Hörmann steel doors are a finished product. They do not require re-painting on site. They are however not immune to damage, which can occur at any stage of the handling of the product from factory to site.

Finish - Timber Doors

Timber panels are coated with a neutralising base-stain. Doors must be stored upright, under cover, with wrapping intact, until wrapping is removed. As soon as the door is unwrapped, one coat of a good quality basecoat primer must be applied to both sides of the door. Immediately after installation, your timber doors require a further two coats of a good quality exterior wood finish on both sides. Initial application and periodic treatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with the woodstain manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow these instructions will result in early deterioration of the timber panel.

Finish - GRP Doors

GRP door panels should periodically washed down using water. This should be done more frequently if fitted near the sea. Bird droppings will bleach the finish on GRP. and should be removed using water as soon as possible. GRP doors should not be painted over.

Paint Finish - Steel Doors

Minor surface damage can easily be repaired using touch up sprays or sticks without invalidating warranties.
