A:

Some garage door finishes can fade very quickly if they are in direct sunlight facing south or west.

Cheap paint will fade very fast and a high quality paint or laminate foil or printing finish is essential on any externally fitted door in the extreme climate conditions in the UK.

Door fading will depend on the UV stability of the paint used on the steel or aluminium door surface along with pretreatment processes too.

An example of high quality finishing is with Carteck steel side hinged and sectional doors as they use steel panels colour coated and tested to EN10169. The Trend colours used have a rating at Ruv3. EN10169 is a test using accelerated UV exposure to measure the fade and gloss retention over time. 4 ratings exist between Ruv1 and Ruv4 with Ruv4 being the highest rating for stability.

Garage doors can be finished in powdercoated, laminate foil and printed option generally for steel and then multiple options for timber doors.

The best advice is to get reassurance on the warranty for the paint finish but do some research where you can. Cheap paint finishes can fade within a year where high quality paint finishes can still look the same after 10 years if kept clean.

A:

Yes it does. We offer many doors which can be supplied within 1-3 weeks but they are in limited colours choices. Stock colours tend to be white, black and anthracite, but we do have some other colours now in the Hormann up and over door range and Carteck side hinged range offered.

Most garage doors offered with a large colour selection will be around 6-8 weeks for delivery whether they are standard or purpose made sizes, because they are all made to order for you with the options for the final specification not just being the colour finish.

If the delivery time is a critical factor we suggest you contact us to discuss the most up to date options available.

A:

Ideally it should if it is close proximity, but this isn’t always possible. depending what your front door material and colour is. As most garage doors are either steel or aluminium the paint finishes reflect light and shade differently to a composite colour finish or timber wood treatment.

Be careful when ordering and check the exact paint references but also the gloss content if you are wanting a more exact match.

Matching front doors and garage doors are very popular when the doors are on the same house wide and probably present to the front of your house. This can co ordinate the aesthetics but if the garage door is out of sight of the front door then the colour choice is generally not so relevant.

A:

Obviously that is a personal choice in reality but in the UK certainly a lot of front door and garage door colours tend to follow the colours for windows. Garage doors tend to follow front food and window trends but of course you can select contrasting colours for the garage door.

A dark colour facing directly south isn’t the best idea so look for lighter colours if this is the case.

There are so many colours available now you can think modern, heritage, classic and matching, all depending on what your house is like.

The higher selling colours in the UK are tendon to be lighter greys, black, anthracite and white still but there are some beautiful muted and heritage colours for more classic garage door designs now which look great on the right houses.

Many garage doors have a white or very light grey for the inside finish to keep the light levels up inside the garage. This is worth checking on double doors as a black internal colour could suck a lot of light out of your garage if you are using it regularly.
