Sectional Doors Steel GEAR TYPE: Sectional

When you have a garage opening that does not quite fall into standard sizing, trying to force a pre set door into the space usually means thick plastic fascias or bulky timber packing. The Made to Measure Standard Ribbed door avoids all that by being built to the exact millimetre of your opening, ensuring the steel frame sits tightly against the brickwork and you get the absolute maximum drive through width possible.

The Standard Ribbed design uses narrow, evenly spaced horizontal lines across the 40mm insulated steel panels. This breaks up the solid face of the door, giving it a subtle texture that works incredibly well on both traditional brick builds and more modern properties. It is a brilliant way to get the high security, draught proofing, and thermal efficiency of a premium sectional door, specifically tailored to fit your unique garage space without any awkward installation compromises.

Why buy this door: If your garage requires a bespoke size and you want a classic, universally appealing narrow ribbed design that offers serious weather protection and security, this purpose built door is the right choice.

CarTeck Made to Measure Standard Ribbed Insulated Sectional Door

When measuring up an older or custom built garage, the opening rarely hits exact standard dimensions. Opting for this made to measure Standard Ribbed model means the door is built specifically for the hole you have, rather than forcing you to make the hole fit a pre set door. This bespoke approach completely eliminates the need for wide, unsightly UPVC cloaking profiles or thick timber fascias, giving the installation a crisp, professional finish where the steel frame sits right against the brickwork.

The Standard Ribbed styling uses a sequence of narrow horizontal lines that run consistently across the full width of the door. This tight, uniform pattern breaks up the flat face of the steel, giving the door a classic, textured look that feels right at home on everything from 1930s semi detached houses through to brand new builds. Beyond the styling, you get the serious practical advantages of a 40mm thick insulated steel construction, giving you a garage that feels notably warmer, quieter, and incredibly secure.

Why buy this door: If your garage requires a bespoke size and you want a classic, universally appealing narrow ribbed design that offers serious weather protection and security without any installation compromises. This design is also better for smaller sizes aesthetically

Why insulated sectional works for British garages

A 40mm thick double skin insulated steel panel makes a noticeable difference in a typical UK garage, instantly upgrading a cold, draughty space into something much more usable. The door is combined with heavy duty perimeter sealing at the frame, between the individual panels, and at the floor threshold. This completely seals out draughts, driving rain, and dust far better than a basic up and over door. Because it uses a vertical lift operation, there is no outward swing into the driveway. This means shorter drives are not an issue, and you can park right up to the door without needing to leave clearance room to open it.

If your garage is attached to the house or sits below a bedroom, the 40mm insulation also helps take the edge off heat loss from the main property. A dry, reasonably insulated garage becomes a much more usable space for a workshop, home gym, or utility room, whilst being kinder to any stored tools and vehicles.

Key features of the Made to Measure Standard Ribbed door

  • Bespoke manufacturing: Built precisely to your millimetre opening dimensions, ensuring a tight, draught free fit and maximising your usable drive through space without thick plastic infill panels
  • Industry leading colour options: Widest range of standard finished colours for any sectional garage door, specifically chosen to suit UK properties
  • Formidable physical strength: 40mm double skin insulated steel panels give you genuine day to day durability and excellent resistance against forced entry
  • Tested thermal efficiency: Independently tested whole door U value of 1.38 W/m²K on standard sizes keeps the cold weather out and the warmth in
  • Total weather protection: Heavy duty rubber seals between panels, against the side frame legs, and across the floor threshold drastically cut moisture and draughts
  • Fully certified: CE and UKCA marked, and independently tested to current safety, wind, water, and air performance standards under BS EN 13241

Window and glazing options

You can bring natural light into the garage by adding factory fitted windows. The narrow rib design handles glazing really well, with a strong choice of layouts that slot neatly into the horizontal sections. You can opt for straightforward square or rectangular units, or introduce a more contemporary feel with stainless steel portholes. The glazing itself uses a scratch resistant double pane polymer, available in clear, frosted, satin, or tinted finishes. This gives you complete control over how much natural light comes in and how much privacy you want to maintain from the street outside.

Electric operation and active security

Pairing this bespoke door with a CarTeck DRIVE or MOTOR electric operator makes daily use effortless, allowing you to open the garage straight from the warmth of your car on dark, wet evenings. These motors run quietly and include a smart force monitoring system that instantly stops and reverses the door if it hits an obstacle. They also provide serious security, using an active anti force system built directly into the boom rail that pushes back with 60kg of downward pressure if someone tries to lever the door up from the bottom. You can operate the system using handheld remotes, internal wall buttons, wireless numeric keypads, or smart app control via SOMweb or myQ directly from your mobile phone.

Colours and exterior finishes

  • 50 standard UK colours: A massive choice of standard finishes, including the most popular greys, blacks, creams, and incredibly realistic wood effects
  • Custom RAL matching: If you need a precise match for a specific front door or aluminium window frame, the door can be painted in almost any custom RAL colour at an extra cost
  • Surface textures: The Standard Ribbed design can be pressed in up to four different external surface textures, such as smooth, stucco, or woodgrain, at no extra cost depending on the colour chosen
  • Seamless visual finish: Colour matched frame legs and header cover profiles are available to make sure the entire installation blends seamlessly into the surrounding brickwork

Springs and precision running gear

For bespoke sizes up to 5500mm wide, the lifting springs are pre tensioned and tucked safely out of the way high up in the horizontal roof tracks. This keeps the mechanical parts tidy and preserves your usable wall space inside the garage. The precision running gear uses strong galvanised steel roller blocks and ball bearing runners to give a well balanced, quiet action that does not put any unnecessary strain on the electric motor over time. Both the door and the operator are tested together as a complete unit before receiving their CE and UKCA marking, meaning you are investing in a fully certified system rather than a compromised mix of different brands.

Door Colour:
Select your preferred powdercoat colour finish for the outer framework on the door panels from a range of 22 Trend colours offered. RAL references for colours are provided as a guide only to the nearest similar RAL colour and colours will not match other RAL finishes with different coating processes, gloss content and surface texture finishes.
The door panels are available as a smooth, woodgrain, stucco or micro-profiled finish.
Where the door is exposed to direct and lengthy sunlight darker colours should be avoided.

Choose Door Panel Colour Finish:
Select your preferred powdercoat colour finish for the outer framework on the door panels from a range of 16 Trend colours offered. RAL references for colours are provided as a guide only to the nearest similar RAL colour and colours will not match other RAL finishes with different coating processes, gloss content and surface texture finishes.
The surface finish for the door panel frames are a smooth finish.
Where the door is exposed to direct and lengthy sunlight darker colours should be avoided.

Frame legs and Head to match door colour:
Choose the colour you require for the outer steel frame system. Although many sectional garage doors are fitted behind the garage opening so you don’t see the sub frame you will still see the edge of the frame where it has a small return section. Standard colour is white and if any of the frame is showing or it is fitted inbetween you can contrast the door colour to the door panel colour if required.

Installation Position:
Tell us whether you are fitting the door behind or inbetween the structural opening.
Sectional garage doors were originally designed to install behind the structural opening of a garage but it is now possible to fit the door inbetween if required – when there are no returns, internal obstacles, etc.
The sizes for ordering should be carefully calculated when fitting inbetween the opening reducing the ordering width by the frame legs and head section along with a tolerance for fitting too. See our ‘Measure’ tab for full details.

Inbetween Opening Installation Kit:
If fitting the door inbetween the structural opening you will need this kit to secure the steel sub frame to the opening with the special set of bracketry.

Choose Remote Control Operator Model
We highly recommend the Carteck Drive 600Nm electric operator for the Carteck Sectional door range. The 600NM is only a fraction more than the 500Nm but it is 33% faster in opening speed and more powerful too obviously and hence our operator of choice for this door range.
The standard Carteck Drive 600Nm is a one piece integrated unit with boom, motor and control in one unit to mount above the door. The Drive Pro 600Nm has a separate control unit than can be mounted wherever is most convenient in your garage to suit.
Both systems have remote control operation as standard and both have an integrated courtesy LED light built in which operated when the motor is used and switches off automatically. Add options for additional control as required from our options list

Emergency External Release for garages with a second entrance:
If you have no other means of access into your garage then we strongly advise you have an emergency manual release mechanism. It is a key cylinder operated from the outside of the door which provides a manual facility to disengage the motor drive from the door enabling the door to be lifted manually when there is a power failure.

Wireless 2 function Wall Switch:
This is a remote control device in the form of a wall mounted 2 button switch to control one or 2 garage doors from inside your garage or home. Like a light switch but without and cables and a battery remote control signal for operation. (Called Access Pack 2).

Somweb is the secure smart home solution where all data stays in your garage and enables you to control electric operators via a smartphone app, tablet or web browser.

Designed and Built for UK Properties

CarTeck sectional doors are engineered specifically to handle the demands of British homes. They are built to cope with our unpredictable climate, offering solid weather protection, excellent physical security, and high levels of thermal efficiency. What sets CarTeck apart is their approach to sizing. Instead of forcing you into a handful of standard dimensions, they manufacture these doors as a purpose made, exact to measure fit for your specific garage. Whether you have a compact single garage at 2 metres wide, or a massive double opening up to 8 metres across, the door is built to fit the space seamlessly.

40mm Insulated Panel Construction

The door itself uses an eight layer construction based around 40mm thick panels. These are made from two 0.4mm galvanised steel skins bonded tightly to a highly stable insulated foam core. This is finished off with heavy duty adhesion primers and a sealed top coat to make sure the surface stands up to daily wear and tear. Because of this robust build, the complete door achieves an independently tested thermal insulation U-value of 1.38 W/m²K, while the panels on their own test incredibly well at 0.56 W/m²K.

Heavy Duty Weather Sealing

To keep the weather outside where it belongs, comprehensive rubber sealing runs right around the door. You will find flexible seals at the top frame header, straight down both side legs, and running horizontally between every single door panel. Across the floor, a heavy duty rubber threshold seal finishes the job. If your garage floor is not completely level, Teckentrup can even manufacture a bespoke sloping bottom panel to match the floor angle precisely. On top of that, the vertical steel frame legs sit on a special plastic base foot, which keeps the steel off the damp floor and stops rust from creeping up the frame.

Tested and Certified Performance

Every CarTeck sectional door goes through independent testing and carries both CE and UKCA marking, meaning it fully complies with current safety and building regulations. These doors are built to handle the daily grind of residential use while meeting strict European performance standards across the board.

Performance Characteristic European Standard CarTeck Rating
Resistance to Windload EN 12424 Class 2
Watertightness EN 12425 Class 2
Air Permeability EN 12426 Class 2

The Widest Colour Choice Available

Frame Colour Options

As standard, the fixing frame legs and head section come in a smooth White finish (RAL 9016). If the frame is going to be visible once installed, you can choose a colour matched upgrade at an extra cost. This allows the frame to blend in perfectly with the door, or you can choose a contrasting colour if that suits the design of the property better.

Made to Measure Sizing Categories

Because these doors are made to measure, they are built to the exact millimetre you need. To make things clear, the sizes are broken down into three categories depending on the scale of your opening:

Standard Range: This covers the vast majority of normal residential single and double garages, offering bespoke sizes up to 5500mm wide and 3000mm high.

XL Range: For wider openings, the XL range takes over from 5501mm and goes up to 6250mm wide, with heights available up to 2500mm.

SuperSize Range: When dealing with exceptionally large spans, the SuperSize doors start at 5500mm and stretch up to a massive 8000mm wide in one continuous span, with heights up to 3000mm.

Installation Position and Ordering Measurements

The standard and most straightforward way to install these doors is fitting behind the reveal (inside the garage, behind the brickwork). This method means no fixing holes are visible on the front of the frame.

Fitting Between the Brickwork Opening:
If you need to fit the door directly between the brickwork pillars, you will need to add the Inbetween Opening Installation Kit. This adapts the steel frame for a between fit. When fitting this way, the frame legs will have visible factory drilled holes that you will need to cover with a cloaking strip (which is not included). When calculating your ordering width for a between fit, you need to deduct 180mm from your structural opening width, and always remember to allow for some fitting tolerance so you are not squeezing it in tight.

Height Deductions for Ordering:
When ordering an electrically operated door, deduct 140mm from your opening height to get the correct ordering height. If you are using the optional twist fix header bracket, that deduction drops to 120mm. If you are ordering a manually operated door, deduct 120mm.

Please note that for any door heights over 2250mm, the frame legs cannot be supplied undrilled.

Hardware Options

Handle: These doors do not come with an external handle as standard. If you are planning to use the door manually rather than with an electric motor, you will need to add a handle option to your order.

External Emergency Release: If the garage has no other way in, an external emergency release is fitted as standard in the top left hand corner, allowing you to manually open the door from the outside in the event of a power cut.

Springs and Lifting Gear

On the standard size doors up to 5500mm wide, CarTeck uses a market leading spring system with the lifting springs completely concealed high up in the horizontal tracks. This keeps the mechanism tidy and delivers an incredibly smooth and quiet operation. On the larger XL and SuperSize models, the system changes to heavy duty rear mounted torsion springs with reinforced panel profiles to safely handle the extra weight of the massive door leaves. Regardless of size, all the doors use strong galvanised steel roller blocks and ball bearing runners to make sure the door runs quietly and lasts for years.

Electric Automation

Teckentrup matches these doors with smart, highly capable electric operators. These motors actively monitor the force needed to move the door, and crucially, they feature an active anti force system that pushes back with 60kg of force if someone tries to lever the door open from the bottom. The CarTeck DRIVE and CarTeck MOTOR units give you smooth, reliable operation, built in LED lighting, and options for smart home control straight from your phone.

CarTeck Drive 600N: The Drive 600N motor has plenty of power to lift any door within the standard size range. The control unit and drive sit neatly above the door, using a fixed chain drive system which is noticeably quieter and much more reliable long term than traditional moving belt or revolving chain designs.

Safer, Simpler Installation with Preloaded Tension Springs

Unlike many other sectional garage doors that rely on complex and potentially dangerous high-tension torsion springs mounted directly above the door, the CarTeck system utilises a far safer, multi-spring tension system.

To make installation as straightforward and safe as possible, all single layer spring trays for standard CarTeck doors are now supplied fully pre-assembled straight from the factory. The high level tension springs come preloaded within their fully enclosed steel trays, complete with the lifting cables already perfectly routed and retained by anti-twist brackets. This incredibly smart design not only prevents dirt from entering the mechanism, boosting durability, but it also dramatically speeds up the installation process on site. The multiple spring system evenly balances the weight of the door panels, whilst the dual retaining cables reliably support the door in all situations, meaning it remains safe and operational even in an emergency. Because the springs are safely housed within these steel channels, tensioning the door is significantly safer and easier than wrestling with an exposed torsion spring bar.

How to Measure for Your Made to Measure CarTeck Sectional Door

Measuring for a made to measure CarTeck sectional garage door ensures you get the absolute best fit for your garage, maximising your drive through width and height. Unlike standard size doors, these are manufactured to your exact specifications. All CarTeck sectional doors are ordered by their internal structural opening dimensions (the actual drive through width and height). The steel installation frame is always calculated as an addition or reduction to these internal dimensions, depending on your chosen installation position.

For quick visual reference, please refer to the 3D technical drawings located in the image gallery at the top of this page. These clearly show how the frame fits in relation to the opening.

Measuring for a Behind the Opening Fit (Standard)

This is the ideal and most common way to install a sectional door. The door and its steel framework sit entirely on the inner face of the garage wall, keeping the mechanics hidden and maximising the opening size.

  • Width: Measure the brick to brick width of your garage opening in several places. Your ordering width is simply the exact smallest of these measurements.
  • Height: Measure from the finished floor level to the underside of the lintel. Your ordering height is this exact measurement.
  • Check your clearances: Because the frame sits entirely behind the brickwork, you must ensure you have sufficient internal space. You will need a minimum of 85mm to 90mm of clear sideroom on both the left and right sides of the opening to accommodate the frame legs.
  • Check your headroom: You must also have a minimum of 120mm of clear headroom between the underside of the lintel and the ceiling to accommodate the top track and motor (this increases to 140mm for very large doors requiring double springing or if opting for XL and SuperSize dimensions).

Measuring for an Inbetween the Opening Fit

If you do not have internal brickwork returns, the door must be installed directly between the brick pillars using the optional Inbetween Opening Installation Kit.

  • Width: Measure your brick to brick opening. To find your exact ordering width, you must deduct 180mm from this opening size (this allows for the two frame legs and a necessary fitting tolerance).
  • Height: Measure your floor to lintel height. To find your exact ordering height, you must deduct 120mm (if installing a manual door or using the additional low headroom bracket) or deduct 140mm (for standard electric operation without the special bracket).

Important Depth Check

Sectional doors travel horizontally back into the garage space along the ceiling. It is essential to check that your garage is deep enough to accommodate the full length of the horizontal tracks and the motor boom. Ensure you have clear, unobstructed space running back into the garage equivalent to the height of the door plus approximately 350mm to 600mm.

If you have any doubts whatsoever about measuring your garage opening for a custom fit door, please contact our expert team for verification before placing your order.
