Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed - Insulated Sectional Door in Standard Sizes (Up to 6m)
The Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed profile has a bold, confident look with broad horizontal ribs that give a contemporary edge to the front of your home. The strong rib pattern turns what is often a plain part of the elevation into a clear design feature. Combined with 42 mm insulated steel panels, a choice of 17 Silkgrain colours and proven Hormann engineering, this is one of the most distinctive standard size sectional doors in the range. This model covers pre set standard size options, ideal where your opening matches a common United Kingdom width and height, with sizes available up to 6000 mm wide and 3000 mm high in selected widths.
Standard Sizes Value and Speed Combined
Standard size LPU42 doors are built around the most commonly used United Kingdom garage openings, so they generally move through production and despatch more quickly than made to measure doors. If your aperture matches a typical single bay width such as 2134 mm, 2286 mm or 2438 mm with a standard height, ordering from this listing usually offers the best balance of price and lead time. Double width doors are also available in selected standard sizes up to 6000 mm wide and 3000 mm high, which suits many modern wider garages. If your opening falls outside these size brackets, a purpose made metric size version is available separately.
The L Ribbed Look
The L Ribbed design is defined by its large, wide horizontal ribs that run cleanly across the face of the door. The result is a bold, architectural appearance that works particularly well on new build properties, modern extensions and homes where the garage door is intended as a focal point. In darker Silkgrain finishes such as Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 or Basalt Grey RAL 7012, the ribs create deep shadow lines that change with the light through the day. In lighter colours such as Traffic White or Cream, the pattern gives a crisp, graphic look with strong kerb appeal.
17 Silkgrain Colours
Silkgrain is a fine grain painted finish applied to the outer steel skin of each panel. The 17 standard colours cover many common external schemes, from Traffic White RAL 9016 through a range of greens, blues, greys and darker accent shades. This makes it straightforward to match or complement existing windows, doors and cladding. Where a more precise match is needed, around 200 special RAL colours can be specified as a custom option at additional cost, allowing the garage door to follow an exact paint or frame colour already in use on the property.
LPU42 Construction and Weather Protection
The LPU42 door uses double skinned steel sections with a rigid polyurethane foam core, giving a 42 mm panel thickness for very good thermal insulation. This helps to keep the garage space warmer in winter and cooler in summer, which is important where the garage is attached to the house or used regularly as a work or storage space. The sectional design opens vertically and then runs back on overhead tracks, so there is no swing out onto the driveway and you can park close to the door without affecting its operation.
Continuous rubber seals run around all 4 sides of the door to help reduce draughts, dust and water ingress. The flexible bottom seal follows small variations in floor level, which is useful on slightly uneven concrete. At the foot of the frame a plastic frame shoe of approximately 40 mm height protects the most exposed area of the side channels from standing water and corrosion, helping the frame to last longer in everyday conditions.
Electric Operation Everyday Use and Convenience
Most Hormann insulated sectional steel doors are used with an electric operator because the smooth running track system and balanced spring mechanism work very well with a ceiling mounted motor. With operators such as the Hormann ProMatic and SupraMatic you can open and close the door using a hand transmitter, an internal wall button or an optional external keypad. This is particularly convenient in poor weather or during the evening, as you can stay inside the vehicle while the door opens and the operator light illuminates the garage.
The SupraMatic operator offers higher pulling force and a faster opening speed than the ProMatic, which is especially useful on larger double doors up to 6000 mm wide where extra power and speed are beneficial. The ProMatic is well suited to small and medium size doors and still provides smooth, reliable operation, with options for alternative power supplies on some versions where there is no mains electricity in the garage. Both operators are designed specifically for sectional doors, so acceleration, running speed and soft stopping are all controlled for quiet and consistent movement.
Security Bi Secur and Secured by Design
When an LPU42 sectional door is installed with a suitable Hormann ProMatic or SupraMatic operator using the correct locking components, the door and operator combination can achieve Secured by Design accreditation on the relevant LPU models when fitted in line with the requirements. This means it has been independently tested for resistance to forced entry, which is a key point if you store valuable items in the garage or have an internal access door into the house. The operator incorporates a mechanical locking system in the boom that engages when the door is closed, holding the door firmly against the frame and making it much harder to lever open from the outside.
All current Hormann operators use the Bi Secur radio protocol, which is a two way encrypted control system developed to minimise the risk of signal copying or interception. The hand transmitters use strong encryption similar to that used in online banking, and certain handsets can also display whether the door is open or closed. Combined with the mechanical anti lift protection in the operator rail and the insulated steel door construction, this provides a high overall level of security compared with single skin doors and non branded electric motors.
Safety Features and Long Term Support
Double tension springs and safety cables are fitted on both sides of the door to help prevent uncontrolled movement if a spring should fail in use. When operated with a compatible Hormann motor, the door will automatically stop and reverse if it meets an obstruction while closing, helping to protect people, vehicles and other objects in the opening. Hormann offers a 10 year warranty on the door assembly for normal domestic use, together with a separate warranty on the electric operator, and replacement parts are widely available, making this a long term solution for most homes.

Warranty
Hörmann products are manufactured to the highest quality standards and leave our factory only after rigorous quality testing. However, if you should have grounds for complaint, this section tells you what our door warranty offers, and how to go about making your claim.
In the unlikely event of a warranty claim becoming necessary, please contact the dealer or distributor who originally supplied your garage door. Your dealer should then supply details of the claim, together with a copy of the warranty card provided with the door and proof of purchase to the Product Services Department at Hörmann (UK) Ltd. To enable your claim under warranty to be processed as quickly as possible, you should provide the following details:
1 Your name, address and telephone number
2 Original invoice with date of purchase
3 Product description/door type and product number
4 Description of defect
An assessment of the claim will then be made. This may require Hörmann to inspect the product in-situ. In the event that there is no legitimate warranty claim under the terms specified herein, you may be liable for the costs of the inspection visit. We strongly recommend that you take note of the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door, and on the page opposite, and that you follow these instructions throughout.
Hörmann (UK) Ltd Garage Door Warranty
Warranty Period The purchaser is granted a warranty covering the safe and reliable function of the Hörmann garage door for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase. A 5 year warranty applies to springs, wire cables, track rollers, hinges and guide rollers. The warranty period for replacement parts is 6 months or to the end of the current warranty period, whichever is longer. In the case of foilcoated timber-effect, a warranty of 5 years is granted, for timber and GRP doors a warranty of 2 years is granted on the door panels alone under the terms and conditions specified herein. The door mechanism and steel frame (if applicable) is covered by the 10 year warranty period.

Warranty claims are only applicable in the country where the garage door was purchased. The product must have been purchased through our authorised distribution channels. Electric Operator Warranty
A separate 5 year warranty is granted on our electric operators. This includes operator mechanics, motor and motor control systems. A 2 year warranty is granted on radio equipment, accessories and system controls. There is no warranty on consumables (e.g. fuses, batteries, bulbs etc.).
By always fitting a Hörmann operator, you are supplying a tried and tested solution, where the operator has been optimally matched to the door, and you can be assured that their Hörmann door and operator combination will provide reliable operation for many years. Therefore, if you fit a non-Hörmann operator on a Hörmann door, the customer's Warranty will not be valid.
User Information/Care
Finish - Steel Doors
The coating process applied to the door and chassis is environmentally friendly. Minor scratches or marks are not covered under the conditions of our warranty and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the panel. Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalines, and salts, etc. should be cleaned from the door immediately; failure to do so will result in deterioration of the finish, which will not be covered under our warranty. Should deterioration of the finish start to occur you will need to repaint your door immediately. Prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry. Then treat with solvent based 2 pack epoxy wash primer and a normal commercial paint (cellulose paint must not be used). Hörmann steel doors are a finished product. They do not require re-painting on site. They are however not immune to damage, which can occur at any stage of the handling of the product from factory to site.
Finish - Timber Doors
Timber panels are coated with a neutralising base-stain. Doors must be stored upright, under cover, with wrapping intact, until wrapping is removed. As soon as the door is unwrapped, one coat of a good quality basecoat primer must be applied to both sides of the door. Immediately after installation, your timber doors require a further two coats of a good quality exterior wood finish on both sides. Initial application and periodic treatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with the woodstain manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow these instructions will result in early deterioration of the timber panel.
Finish - GRP Doors
GRP door panels should periodically washed down using water. This should be done more frequently if fitted near the sea. Bird droppings will bleach the finish on GRP. and should be removed using water as soon as possible. GRP doors should not be painted over.
Paint Finish - Steel Doors
Minor surface damage can easily be repaired using touch up sprays or sticks without invalidating warranties.
