Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed - Made to Measure Insulated Sectional Door
The Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed design offers a strong, modern look with wide horizontal ribs that add texture and depth to the front of your home. The broad ribs help break up what is often the largest single surface on the property and give it a more architectural appearance. Because this model is made to measure, the panel layout is produced to suit your exact opening, so the ribs run cleanly across the full width of the door rather than sitting inside an over sized frame.
Made to Measure Metric Sizes
This LPU42 L Ribbed door is supplied as a made to measure product in metric sizes, so it can be manufactured to fit openings up to 5500mm wide and 3000mm high. In the United Kingdom Hormann offers two main sizing ranges for sectional doors. One range is based around popular United Kingdom sizes that are described in imperial terms, while the other is a broader European metric range.
For the metric range the doors are priced and presented in steps of two hundred and fifty millimetres in width and height, but the actual door is then manufactured to the exact millimetre to match your structural opening size. This means you still get the simplicity of choosing from clear price bands, but with the benefit of a precise made to measure fit on site. For many garages this approach is more practical than trying to adapt a stock imperial size and filling around it.
Construction Insulation and Weather Protection
The LPU42 uses double skinned steel panels with a rigid polyurethane foam core, giving a door leaf thickness of forty two millimetres for excellent insulation. This type of construction helps to keep the garage warmer in winter and cooler in summer, which is especially useful if the garage is attached to the house or used as a workshop or store room. The sectional design opens vertically and parks under the ceiling, so there is no door swing out onto the driveway, which is ideal for shorter drives or where you park close to the door.
Around the entire perimeter there are flexible rubber seals at the head, sides and along the bottom edge to help keep out draughts, dust and rain. At the base of the side tracks there is a plastic frame shoe which protects against water pooling and corrosion in this exposed area of the frame.
Colour Range and Silkgrain Finish
This made to measure door is available in seventeen Silkgrain colour options, offering plenty of choice to match or contrast with your windows, entrance door or other features. Lighter colours can make the frontage feel larger and brighter, while mid tone greys work well on more contemporary properties and darker shades such as anthracite or deep green give the L Ribbed pattern a stronger, more sculpted appearance. The Silkgrain finish has a fine, even texture which gives the steel panels a smooth, refined look and also helps disguise minor marks from day to day use.
For projects where you need an exact colour match, many special RAL colours can also be specified at extra cost.
Electric Operation and Everyday Convenience
Most customers choose to operate a Hormann insulated sectional steel door with an electric operator, as the combination of smooth running tracks and a quality motor gives very easy day to day use. With ceiling mounted operators such as the Hormann ProMatic or SupraMatic, you can open and close the door from the car or from inside the house, which is especially helpful in bad weather or during the evening. The vertical lift and compact track system mean the motor does not reduce headroom significantly and does not need any extra space on the driveway.
In normal operation you simply press a button on the hand transmitter, wall control or optional keypad and let the motor do the work. This makes the door far more convenient for regular use and is one of the reasons electric operation is such a popular choice on insulated sectional doors.
Security Bi Secur and Secured by Design
When this LPU42 L Ribbed sectional garage door is combined with a suitable Hormann operator such as the ProMatic or SupraMatic, the overall package can meet the requirements for Secured by Design accreditation on the relevant LPU sectional models, when fitted and installed correctly. This is an important benefit for customers looking for a garage door with stronger resistance to forced entry, particularly where the garage stores valuable items or gives access into the house.
The operator uses a mechanical locking system in the boom to hold the door firmly closed, so the door leaf is pulled securely into the frame rather than relying only on motor resistance. The radio control system also uses Hormann Bi Secur technology, which is an encrypted two way radio protocol designed to reduce the risk of unauthorised copying of the remote signal. On compatible systems, Bi Secur can also confirm whether the garage door is open or closed, adding another useful layer of reassurance.
Safety Features and Operator Compatibility
Double tension springs and safety cables are built into the lifting mechanism on each side of the door to protect against uncontrolled movement if a spring were to fail. When used with a compatible automatic operator, the door will also stop if it meets an obstruction during closing, helping to reduce the risk of damage to vehicles or other items in the opening. This made to measure LPU42 L Ribbed door is designed to work with the full range of Hormann domestic electric operators, so you can choose the right motor depending on door size, level of use and preferred control options.

We strongly recommend that you take note of the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door, and on the page opposite, and that you follow these instructions throughout.

User Information/Care
Finish - Steel Doors
The coating process applied to the door and chassis is environmentally friendly. Minor scratches or marks are not covered under the conditions of our warranty and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the panel. Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalines, and salts, etc. should be cleaned from the door immediately; failure to do so will result in deterioration of the finish, which will not be covered under our warranty. Should deterioration of the finish start to occur you will need to repaint your door immediately. Prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry. Then treat with solvent based 2 pack epoxy wash primer and a normal commercial paint (cellulose paint must not be used). Hörmann steel doors are a finished product. They do not require re-painting on site. They are however not immune to damage, which can occur at any stage of the handling of the product from factory to site.
Finish - Timber Doors
Timber panels are coated with a neutralising base-stain. Doors must be stored upright, under cover, with wrapping intact, until wrapping is removed. As soon as the door is unwrapped, one coat of a good quality basecoat primer must be applied to both sides of the door. Immediately after installation, your timber doors require a further two coats of a good quality exterior wood finish on both sides. Initial application and periodic treatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with the woodstain manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow these instructions will result in early deterioration of the timber panel.
Finish - GRP Doors
GRP door panels should periodically washed down using water. This should be done more frequently if fitted near the sea. Bird droppings will bleach the finish on GRP. and should be removed using water as soon as possible. GRP doors should not be painted over.
Paint Finish - Steel Doors
Minor surface damage can easily be repaired using touch up sprays or sticks without invalidating warranties.
