Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed Titan Metallic CH703 Made to Measure Insulated Garage Door

When you want a garage door that looks like it was designed specifically for your property, the combination of a made to measure fit and the Titan Metallic CH703 finish on the L Ribbed LPU42 is hard to beat. Hormann manufactures this model in Germany to your own opening dimensions, so the wide horizontal ribs and deep anthracite metallic foil span the aperture exactly as intended, with no infill panels or visible compromises. It is a strong choice for homeowners who see the garage door as part of the overall architecture rather than an afterthought.

Made to Measure for a Resolved Result

Many garages do not follow standard sizing, whether through extensions, wider than average double bays or altered lintel heights. In these cases it makes more sense to order a door that is built to suit the opening than to adapt brickwork and frames around a stock size. This made to measure LPU42 L Ribbed Titan Metallic door carries the full visual impact of the standard model, but with the added benefit of precise sizing in both width and height. The panel layout is proportioned to your actual opening, the springs and operator can be set for the true door weight and the perimeter seals are positioned to make consistent contact all around the frame.

Standard White Frame and Frame Cover Profiles

The standard Hormann steel fixing frame supplied with the LPU42 range is factory finished in white as standard, regardless of which door colour or finish you choose. In many installations the frame legs sit neatly behind the brickwork or reveal and the white finish is only partly visible, which can work well with lighter facades and internal reveals.

Where the frame edges are more exposed, or you prefer a consistent colour around the opening, Hormann offers frame cover profiles in a range of finishes. These slim cover sections simply clip or fix over the visible frame legs to match or contrast with the door finish. For a Titan Metallic CH703 door you can specify matching frame covers to blend the frame into the door colour, or you can choose a different tone to pick out the opening as a separate feature. This gives plenty of flexibility on site, especially on properties with mixed materials or where the brickwork around the garage opening has already been painted.

L Ribbed Titan Metallic Design

Titan Metallic CH703 is not a standard paint, it is a factory applied foil with a fine metallic grain that reacts to changes in natural light. The surface can look slightly different at midday in bright sun compared with a dull winter afternoon and can appear even richer when the door is wet. The L Ribbed profile uses wide, flat ribs that make the most of this effect, because the high points and recesses of each rib catch the light differently across the face of the door. This gives the impression of depth and movement that a flat panel door cannot offer.

The design sits very comfortably next to steel and glass extensions, pale grey render, exposed concrete or darker brickwork. It works particularly well where the garage door is intended to contribute to the elevation alongside other strong materials and details, rather than quietly disappear into the background.

Five Year Finish Warranty

The Titan Metallic foil is bonded to the steel face of each panel in controlled factory conditions. It is specified for ultraviolet resistance in typical United Kingdom weather and designed to be easy to clean using normal non abrasive cleaners. Hormann supports the Titan Metallic finish with a separate 5 year surface warranty under normal domestic use, which gives confidence that the appearance on day one should remain stable for many years without severe fading or chalking.

LPU42 Thermal and Weather Performance

Behind the metallic surface this is a full specification LPU42 sectional door. The panels are double skinned steel with a rigid polyurethane foam core and a thickness of 42 mm, giving very good thermal insulation and a fitted door U value of approximately 1.3 W per square metre Kelvin when installed correctly. This helps to keep the garage space more stable in temperature, which is important where the garage is attached to the house or used regularly.

Continuous rubber seals around the head, both sides and along the bottom edge of the door help to reduce draughts, dust and rain ingress. On a made to measure door the frame and seals are sized to suit your exact opening, which means the seal lines are more consistent all around the perimeter. A flexible bottom seal follows small variations in floor level, while the patented plastic frame shoe at the base of each side track helps to protect the most exposed part of the frame from standing water and corrosion.

Electric Operation and Bi Secur Control

This made to measure Titan Metallic LPU42 is designed to work seamlessly with Hormann electric operators such as the ProMatic and SupraMatic. The smooth running track system and correctly balanced springs make it easy for the operator to move the door, even on larger made to measure widths. With a ceiling mounted motor you can control the door via hand transmitters, wall mounted push buttons or optional external keypads, making daily use far more convenient than lifting a door manually.

The ProMatic operator is suitable for many small to medium size made to measure doors and offers quiet, reliable operation, soft start and soft stop and integrated lighting that switches on automatically when the door moves. For wider or heavier doors, or where you prefer faster opening speeds and additional features, the SupraMatic operator is the better option. It offers higher pulling force and noticeably faster travel speeds, together with extra options such as partial opening for ventilation on some versions.

Both operators use the Hormann Bi Secur radio system. This is a two way encrypted protocol which helps to prevent unauthorised copying of the remote control signal. Selected Bi Secur hand transmitters can also indicate whether the door is currently open or closed, even when you cannot see it directly, which is a useful reassurance feature. The operator rail includes a mechanical locking device that engages when the door is closed, helping to hold the door leaf securely in place against the frame and resist attempts to force it upwards from outside.

Security and Long Term Support

Double tension springs and safety cables on each side of the door provide protection in the unlikely event of a spring failure, helping to prevent the door from dropping suddenly. When combined with a compatible ProMatic or SupraMatic operator, the system monitors movement and will stop and reverse automatically if the door meets an obstruction while closing, helping to protect people, vehicles and other objects in the opening.

Hormann supports the door assembly with a 10 year warranty for normal domestic use and provides separate warranty cover for the operator. With a long established supply chain and good parts availability, this made to measure LPU42 L Ribbed Titan Metallic CH703 door and operator combination offers a long term, practical and visually distinctive solution for a wide range of properties.

Domestic garage door - low to medium useage.

The Hormann LPU 42 doors are a range of steel insulated sectional doors for domestic applications. They are prepared as standard for any of the Hormann electric garage door operators and the doors are suitable for 10 operations per day in accordance with the guarantee conditions. Sectional garage doors open vertically and then slide back into the garage at a higher level than an up and over one piece door. They offer great levels of insulation, security and also optimise your drive through dimensions in most cases.

U-value of the Hormann LPU42 door with ThermoFrame: 1.2 W/(m²·K)1)

Hormann LPU42 sectional doors come as standard without a door handle set and lock.
Any handles are to be ordered separately and come complete with a template for on-site fitting.

Colours
There are a wide range of powdercoat colours and special colours finishes along with printed and laminate foil coated doors to replicate woodgrain and building materials.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL Hormann LPU 42 steel sectional doors have WHITE powdercoated finish for the fixing frame legs as standard and the frame head section profile is either in the same colour as the door colour or a complimentary powdercoat solid colour when it is a laminated or printed door finish. If you require a matching colour for the whole frame you need to buy the frame cover profile sets to suit your requirements.

Frame Cover Profiles
The optional frame cover profiles are to cover the fixing frame legs when exposed.
ALL Hormann sectional door frame legs are white powdercoated as standard, regardless of the door colour chosen. These frame covers are an additional cost option and are designed to match the chosen colour of the garage door and are supplied as a pair to the height of the door ordered. The header frame is self-coloured to the door as standard.

Choose from either 55mm wide or 90mm wide profiles depending on whether the frame is partially showing behind an opening or fully exposed when installing  inbetween.

Track Applications
You will see references with every single Hormann sectional door size to either a Z or N track. This is the tracking and spring arrangement reference, where a Z track system uses tension springs at either side of the door and the N track system for larger door sizes has a torsion spring sitting above the door and requires more headroom for the larger curve in the tracking.

There is also an L or H track arrangement available. L is low headroom where the torsion spring is relocated to the rear of the horizontal internal tracking to provide lower headroom at the front where space might be limited. H is for ‘high lift’ tracking where we can have the door manufactured with the vertical tracking rising higher than normal to take the door panels as high as possible inside your garage with options for angles tracking too if you want to follow your roofline and maximize internal space.

Most Hormann sectional doors are sold with the Z track application system and some models dont have the same limits on the sizes where this is offered.

For Silkgrain doors, Track Application Z is available:
Up to a height of 2625 for doors up to 3000 wide.

For non-Silkgrain doors, Track Application Z is available:
Up to a height of 2625 for doors up to 3250 wide.
Up to a height of 2375 for doors up to 3500 wide.
Up to a height of 2250 for doors up to 4000 wide.

Inbetween Opening installation kit
Hormann sectional doors are designed primarily for fitting to the inside face of a garage structural opening, but you can also fit inbetween the opening but then do need to purchase additional components to assist with this.

If you are fitting inbetween the structural garage opening the ‘Inbetween Opening Installation Kit’ is required as a minimum, to adapt the steel frame legs, which are designed as standard for behind opening fitting.
The upright legs of the steel frame when fitted inbetween will have a series of factory drilled holes showing and the frame legs are always white powdercoated whatever door colour finish is ordered so you will also need frame cover profiles or have another method to cloak the fixing frame from the outside.
Please email or talk to us when installing inbetween as there are many other components available to enhance this door installation position.

External Emergency Release
The emergency manual release is required on any remote control electric door where there is no other means of access to the garage. It is used in a power failure to release the top panel of the garage door from the electric operator towing arm. We will send the appropriate release mechanism depending on whether the door has a handle set or not. If it does not have a handle the emergency release is a small key access point drilled into the top panel of the door.

The new BiSecur, hand held transmitters for opening automatic doors and gates, feature bi-directional FM radio signals that use the same 128 bit encryption employed by banks for online banking security. Not only does this system make the transmitters more secure but also means that the signal is more reliable and gives extended operating distances.

Another benefit of the new BiSecur system, is that it includes a remote status query. A simple push of a button will tell you whether an out of sight door is open or closed. The multicolour LED light shows red if the door is open and green if closed. The door can be closed even when out of sight, the LED displaying a blue light until the door is closed and the light turns to green. In this circumstance it is recommended that an additional photocell is installed for added safety.

Warranty

Hörmann products are manufactured to the highest quality standards and leave our factory only after rigorous quality testing. However, if you should have grounds for complaint, this section tells you what our door warranty offers, and how to go about making your claim.

In the unlikely event of a warranty claim becoming necessary, please contact the dealer or distributor who originally supplied your garage door. Your dealer should then supply details of the claim, together with a copy of the warranty card provided with the door and proof of purchase to the Product Services Department at Hörmann (UK) Ltd. To enable your claim under warranty to be processed as quickly as possible, you should provide the following details:

1 Your name, address and telephone number

2 Original invoice with date of purchase

3 Product description/door type and product number

4 Description of defect

An assessment of the claim will then be made. This may require Hörmann to inspect the product in-situ. In the event that there is no legitimate warranty claim under the terms specified herein, you may be liable for the costs of the inspection visit. We strongly recommend that you take note of the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door, and on the page opposite, and that you follow these instructions throughout.

Therefore, if you fit a non-Hörmann operator on a Hörmann door, the customer's Warranty will not be valid.

User Information/Care

Finish - Steel Doors

The coating process applied to the door and chassis is environmentally friendly. Minor scratches or marks are not covered under the conditions of our warranty and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the panel. Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalines, and salts, etc. should be cleaned from the door immediately; failure to do so will result in deterioration of the finish, which will not be covered under our warranty. Should deterioration of the finish start to occur you will need to repaint your door immediately. Prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry. Then treat with solvent based 2 pack epoxy wash primer and a normal commercial paint (cellulose paint must not be used). Hörmann steel doors are a finished product. They do not require re-painting on site. They are however not immune to damage, which can occur at any stage of the handling of the product from factory to site.

Finish - Timber Doors

Timber panels are coated with a neutralising base-stain. Doors must be stored upright, under cover, with wrapping intact, until wrapping is removed. As soon as the door is unwrapped, one coat of a good quality basecoat primer must be applied to both sides of the door. Immediately after installation, your timber doors require a further two coats of a good quality exterior wood finish on both sides. Initial application and periodic treatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with the woodstain manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow these instructions will result in early deterioration of the timber panel.

Finish - GRP Doors

GRP door panels should periodically washed down using water. This should be done more frequently if fitted near the sea. Bird droppings will bleach the finish on GRP. and should be removed using water as soon as possible. GRP doors should not be painted over.

Paint Finish - Steel Doors

Minor surface damage can easily be repaired using touch up sprays or sticks without invalidating warranties.
