Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed Decograin 5 Colour Options Made to Measure Sectional Garage Door
Some garage openings simply do not match the usual size grids, and when the door you have in mind is one of the most characterful options in the Hormann range, there is little point compromising with a standard door and packing it out. The LPU42 L Ribbed Decograin made to measure sectional door is manufactured in Germany to your own opening sizes, so the wide horizontal ribs, the realistic timber effect Decograin foil and all of the seals and frame lines fit the aperture properly. The extra cost over a standard size is modest, but the improvement in appearance and the quality of the seal around the opening is very noticeable.
Purpose Made Sizes up to 5500 mm Wide
This made to measure version is available in metric sizes up to 5500 mm wide and 3000 mm high, covering a wide range of single and larger openings that sit outside the usual standard size brackets. It is the natural choice where you have an unusually wide bay, a reduced lintel height, a non square opening or a width that falls between common imperial and metric sizes. It is also ideal when replacing old timber side hinged or up and over doors where the original builder left an opening that does not match any of the standard options. You provide the structural opening sizes, and the door is built to those dimensions so your installer can set it into the reveal with minimal compromise.
Z Spring and N Track Spring Options
Hormann uses different spring systems on the LPU42 range depending on the size of the door and the available headroom. On many made to measure doors up to a certain width, the Z track system is used, with tension springs positioned down each side of the opening rather than on a shaft above the door. This arrangement keeps the headroom requirement low, which is useful where there is limited space between the top of the opening and the ceiling but still allows smooth, well balanced operation.
For larger and heavier made to measure doors, or where there is more headroom available above the opening, the N track system with a torsion spring shaft mounted above the top panel is often specified. This places the main springs on a bar across the top of the door, giving very even lifting forces and making it easier to fine tune the balance on wider doors. Your installer or supplier will normally confirm which spring layout is appropriate for your door size and headroom, but it is worth being aware that different track options exist to suit different site conditions.
White Steel Frame and Frame Cover Options
Every LPU42 door is supplied with a steel fixing frame which is finished in white at the factory as standard. On many installations the frame sits behind the brick or block reveal and only a narrow white edge is visible, which gives a clean border around the Decograin door leaf. This suits a lot of properties and works particularly well where the reveals or internal walls are also light in colour.
Where more of the frame is exposed, or you want the frame to blend into the Decograin finish rather than stand out in white, Hormann frame cover profiles can be used. These slim covers are available in finishes to match or complement the door and simply fit over the visible frame legs and head. On a Decograin door this allows you to continue the wood effect look right out to the brickwork, or to introduce a contrasting colour to pick out the outline of the opening if that suits the property better.
L Ribbed Decograin Appearance
The L Ribbed profile and Decograin foil combine to create one of the most distinctive looks in the LPU42 range. The broad ribs form strong horizontal bands that echo the plank layout of traditional timber carriage doors, and the Decograin finish adds convincing grain and tonal variation to complete the timber impression. The made to measure sizing ensures that these bands align neatly across the full width of your opening without awkward cut panels or uneven side margins.
The 5 Decograin options, Golden Oak, Dark Oak, Night Oak, Rosewood and Titan Metallic CH703, cover a range of design directions from warm traditional tones to very dark, almost black wood effects and a modern anthracite metallic look. Whatever the choice, the combination of grain, colour and rib layout gives the door enough presence to sit comfortably alongside brick, stone, render or cladding, making the garage door a positive part of the frontage.
Decograin Durability and Finish Warranty
The Decograin foil is applied to the outer steel skin under controlled factory conditions and is designed to withstand typical United Kingdom weather, including prolonged exposure to sunlight and rain. It is resistant to ultraviolet light and backed by a 5 year surface warranty in normal domestic use. Compared with many painted wood effect finishes, the foil retains its colour and grain definition more consistently over time, which is particularly important on south or west facing elevations that see long hours of low angle sun during the summer months.
LPU42 Insulation and Weather Sealing
The LPU42 construction uses double skinned steel panels with a 42 mm thick polyurethane foam core to provide very good insulation, with a fitted door U value of around 1.3 W per square metre Kelvin when installed correctly. The sectional door opens vertically within the frame and then runs back on overhead tracks, so there is no swing out onto the driveway. This is ideal where the driveway length is restricted or vehicles are parked close to the door.
Rubber seals run around all 4 edges of the door and between the panels to help keep out draughts, dust and rain. On a made to measure door these seals are sized and positioned to suit the exact opening, which helps achieve a more even seal all round, even on older or slightly irregular structures. A flexible bottom seal follows small variations in floor level, and the plastic frame shoe fitted at the base of each side track protects this critical area from standing water and corrosion.
Electric Operation and Operator Options
This made to measure LPU42 L Ribbed Decograin door is designed to work with Hormann electric operators and most customers choose to automate from the start. The balanced spring system and smooth running tracks mean a ProMatic or SupraMatic ceiling mounted operator can move the door with ease, even at the larger sizes. Day to day, you simply press a button on a hand transmitter, an internal push button or an optional keypad and let the operator do the heavy lifting, which is far more convenient than manual operation, especially in bad weather or at night.
The ProMatic operator is suitable for many small to medium made to measure doors and offers quiet, reliable running, soft start and soft stop and built in lighting triggered by door movement. Where the door is towards the upper end of the size range or you want faster opening speeds and a stronger motor, the SupraMatic operator is the preferred choice. It offers higher pulling force and noticeably quicker travel times, plus additional programming options and accessories on some models.
Both operators use the Hormann Bi Secur radio control system, with two way encrypted communication to help prevent unauthorised copying or interception of the signal. Selected Bi Secur handsets can also indicate whether the door is open or closed, even when it is out of sight, which is a useful reassurance feature. The operator rail includes a mechanical locking device that engages when the door is closed, helping to hold the door leaf securely down onto the frame and resist attempts to lift it from outside.
Safety Features and Long Term Confidence
Double tension springs and safety cables are fitted on each side of the door to provide controlled movement and protection in the event of a spring fault, helping to prevent the door from dropping unexpectedly. When used with a compatible ProMatic or SupraMatic operator, the system monitors forces during operation and will stop and reverse if the door encounters an obstruction while closing, adding another layer of safety for people, vehicles and belongings in the doorway.
Hormann supports the LPU42 L Ribbed Decograin made to measure door with a 10 year warranty on the door assembly for normal domestic use, alongside separate warranty periods for the Decograin surface and the electric operator. With established German production, good parts availability and proven design, this specification offers a long term, low maintenance and visually appealing solution for non standard garage openings.
Domestic garage door - low to medium usage. Can be used for light commercial applications with either manual operation or a correctly specified electric motor drive and controls with amphasis on the safety system.

In the unlikely event of a warranty claim becoming necessary, please contact the dealer or distributor who originally supplied your garage door. Your dealer should then supply details of the claim, together with a copy of the warranty card provided with the door and proof of purchase to the Product Services Department at Hörmann (UK) Ltd. To enable your claim under warranty to be processed as quickly as possible, you should provide the following details:

An assessment of the claim will then be made. This may require Hörmann to inspect the product in-situ. In the event that there is no legitimate warranty claim under the terms specified herein, you may be liable for the costs of the inspection visit. We strongly recommend that you take note of the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door, and on the page opposite, and that you follow these instructions throughout.

User Information/Care
Finish - Steel Doors
The coating process applied to the door and chassis is environmentally friendly. Minor scratches or marks are not covered under the conditions of our warranty and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the panel. Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalines, and salts, etc. should be cleaned from the door immediately; failure to do so will result in deterioration of the finish, which will not be covered under our warranty. Should deterioration of the finish start to occur you will need to repaint your door immediately. Prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry. Then treat with solvent based 2 pack epoxy wash primer and a normal commercial paint (cellulose paint must not be used). Hörmann steel doors are a finished product. They do not require re-painting on site. They are however not immune to damage, which can occur at any stage of the handling of the product from factory to site.
Finish - Timber Doors
Timber panels are coated with a neutralising base-stain. Doors must be stored upright, under cover, with wrapping intact, until wrapping is removed. As soon as the door is unwrapped, one coat of a good quality basecoat primer must be applied to both sides of the door. Immediately after installation, your timber doors require a further two coats of a good quality exterior wood finish on both sides. Initial application and periodic treatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with the woodstain manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow these instructions will result in early deterioration of the timber panel.
Finish - GRP Doors
GRP door panels should periodically washed down using water. This should be done more frequently if fitted near the sea. Bird droppings will bleach the finish on GRP. and should be removed using water as soon as possible. GRP doors should not be painted over.
Paint Finish - Steel Doors
Minor surface damage can easily be repaired using touch up sprays or sticks without invalidating warranties.
