Duragrain on the LPU42 L Ribbed door gives you the bold, wide ribbed look with a surface that goes well beyond standard paint. It uses a digitally printed, high strength coating system to recreate concrete, stone, timber and graphic effects across the 42 mm insulated steel panels, with a toughness and colour stability that suits everyday use on a busy garage frontage. On a made to measure door, that Duragrain finish runs cleanly across the full width and height of your opening, so the pattern and rib layout look intentional rather than cut down to fit.

Hormann LPU42 L Ribbed Duragrain 19 Colour Options Made to Measure Sectional Door
When you combine the most architecturally bold profile in the LPU42 range with the premium Duragrain surface, it makes sense to have the door manufactured to your exact opening size. This made to measure LPU42 L Ribbed Duragrain sectional door is produced in Germany to your specified width and height, so the wide horizontal ribs are correctly proportioned across the aperture, the Duragrain surface runs without awkward interruptions and every seal and fixing point sits where it should. It is aimed at homeowners who want a true statement door, without having to compromise on dimensions.
Made to Measure Sizes up to 5500 mm Wide
This model is available in purpose made metric sizes up to 5500 mm wide and 3000 mm high, covering a wide range of single and larger openings that fall outside typical standard brackets. It suits garages created as part of extensions, wider than average bays, openings with altered lintel heights and situations where the original builder did not follow a standard size grid. Ordering the door to your actual structural width and height means the panel layout, frame and seals are all configured for that opening, rather than working around a near miss with packing and infill pieces.
Z Track Side Springs and N Track Torsion Springs
Hormann offers different track and spring arrangements on the LPU42 range to suit various sizes and headroom conditions. On many small and medium made to measure doors within certain size limits, the Z track system is used, with tension springs located down each side of the opening rather than on a shaft above the door. This side spring layout keeps the required headroom low and allows the door to be fitted in garages where there is limited space between the top of the opening and the ceiling.
For larger and heavier Duragrain doors, or where there is more headroom available, the N track system with a torsion spring shaft mounted over the top panel is usually specified. The torsion springs sit on a bar above the door and provide very even lifting forces across the width, which is an advantage on wider made to measure doors up to 5500 mm. Your supplier or installer will normally confirm which track and spring configuration is best for your opening, but it is helpful to know that there are options for both low headroom and full height installations.
Duragrain Concept and Surface Detail
Duragrain is a high specification surface system that uses an extremely hard wearing base coating and a detailed digital print layer, all sealed with a robust protective topcoat. Unlike simple painted finishes or standard foils, Duragrain allows very precise reproduction of textures and patterns across the door surface while keeping the overall coating thin enough for the sectional joints and seals to work correctly. The result is a door leaf that looks like concrete, stone, timber or a graphic pattern, but behaves like an insulated steel panel in everyday use.
The 19 Duragrain finishes include concrete and rust style industrial looks, natural stone and timber designs, and strong graphical or tonal options such as striped effects and deep, dense colours that are difficult to achieve with normal paint. This gives you a lot of freedom to coordinate the garage door with modern render, cladding, brickwork or metalwork on the property, or to use the door as a deliberate contrast feature. Because the image and protective layer are factory applied under controlled conditions, the colour and pattern remain stable over time, with far less risk of patchy fading compared with on site painting.
L Ribbed Design in a Non Standard Opening
The L Ribbed profile uses broad, flat ribs to create strong horizontal bands across the face of the door. Visually, this design demands a certain order and rhythm. In a made to measure door the rib layout is calculated for your opening width, so the bands run cleanly from frame to frame without odd gaps or cramped end sections. The Duragrain print continues across these ribs, which gives a very intentional, designed look when the door is closed.
On a door ordered to fit a non standard opening, this proportional accuracy makes a big difference to how the door sits within the facade. Instead of looking like a standard panel that has been forced into the space, the door appears as though it was drawn into the original plans alongside the windows, cladding and other architectural elements.
Thermal Performance and Weather Protection
Beneath the Duragrain surface the LPU42 construction remains the same proven format. The door leaf is built from double skinned steel panels filled with a rigid polyurethane foam core, giving a 42 mm panel thickness and a fitted door U value of approximately 1.3 W per square metre Kelvin when installed correctly. This level of insulation helps to keep attached and integral garages more stable in temperature, which is useful where they share walls with habitable rooms or are used regularly as work or storage spaces.
Rubber seals around all 4 edges of the door and between the sectional panels help reduce draughts, dust and water ingress. On a made to measure door these seal lines are sized to suit the actual opening, which improves the consistency of contact all around the frame. The flexible bottom seal follows minor floor irregularities, and the patented plastic frame shoe at the base of each side track helps to protect this vulnerable area from standing water and corrosion over time.
Electric Operation and Bi Secur Operators
The LPU42 L Ribbed Duragrain made to measure door is designed to work very well with Hormann electric operators. Most customers choose to specify a ProMatic or SupraMatic motor for everyday convenience, as the well balanced springs and smooth running tracks make electric use straightforward even on wider made to measure sizes. With a ceiling mounted operator you can open and close the door via hand transmitters, internal wall buttons or optional keypads, avoiding the need to lift the door manually and making use in poor weather or after dark much easier.
The ProMatic operator is a strong all round choice for many door sizes, offering soft start and soft stop functions, controlled travel speeds and integral lighting that switches on automatically. Where the door is towards the upper end of the size and weight range, or where you prefer faster opening speeds and a higher specification unit, the SupraMatic operator is recommended. It provides greater pulling force and noticeably quicker operation, along with extra control features on certain models. Both operator lines use the Hormann Bi Secur radio system, with two way encrypted communication to reduce the risk of signal copying. Selected Bi Secur hand transmitters can also show whether the door is open or closed, which adds another level of security and convenience.
Safety Features and Long Term Support
Double tension springs and safety cables are fitted on both sides of the door to control movement and provide protection in the event of a spring fault, helping to prevent sudden uncontrolled door travel. When used with a compatible ProMatic or SupraMatic operator, the system monitors forces during operation and will stop and reverse the door if an obstruction is detected while closing, helping to protect vehicles, people and belongings in the opening.
Hormann supports the LPU42 Duragrain range with a 10 year warranty on the door assembly for normal domestic use and separate warranty coverage for the Duragrain surface and operator. With established German manufacturing, good availability of spare parts and a choice of track and spring systems to suit different headroom conditions, this made to measure L Ribbed Duragrain door offers a long term, low maintenance and visually distinctive solution for many non standard garage openings.
Installation Instructions are provided with every door.

An assessment of the claim will then be made. This may require Hörmann to inspect the product in-situ. In the event that there is no legitimate warranty claim under the terms specified herein, you may be liable for the costs of the inspection visit. We strongly recommend that you take note of the care and usage instructions displayed on the stickers on the back of your garage door, and on the page opposite, and that you follow these instructions throughout.

User Information/Care
Finish - Steel Doors
The coating process applied to the door and chassis is environmentally friendly. Minor scratches or marks are not covered under the conditions of our warranty and should be repaired immediately to prevent corrosion and deterioration of the panel. Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalines, and salts, etc. should be cleaned from the door immediately; failure to do so will result in deterioration of the finish, which will not be covered under our warranty. Should deterioration of the finish start to occur you will need to repaint your door immediately. Prepare the surface lightly with wet and dry. Then treat with solvent based 2 pack epoxy wash primer and a normal commercial paint (cellulose paint must not be used). Hörmann steel doors are a finished product. They do not require re-painting on site. They are however not immune to damage, which can occur at any stage of the handling of the product from factory to site.
Finish - Timber Doors
Timber panels are coated with a neutralising base-stain. Doors must be stored upright, under cover, with wrapping intact, until wrapping is removed. As soon as the door is unwrapped, one coat of a good quality basecoat primer must be applied to both sides of the door. Immediately after installation, your timber doors require a further two coats of a good quality exterior wood finish on both sides. Initial application and periodic treatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with the woodstain manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow these instructions will result in early deterioration of the timber panel.
Finish - GRP Doors
GRP door panels should periodically washed down using water. This should be done more frequently if fitted near the sea. Bird droppings will bleach the finish on GRP. and should be removed using water as soon as possible. GRP doors should not be painted over.
Paint Finish - Steel Doors
Minor surface damage can easily be repaired using touch up sprays or sticks without invalidating warranties.
